After spending 10 hours wrestling with my Astroroof and another 3 hours searching the internet, I am desperately hoping someone here has experienced a similar problem and has already found a solution. I just purchased and installed a new Astroroof seal and pan seal from Brian at Gbodyparts.

Here is my issue.

With the new seal installed, the glass does not sit flush with the roof panel in the closed position (down about 3/16"). After struggling with it for hours (countless adjustments, different motors, lubrication), we removed the new seal and replaced the pan assembly. Without the slider seal, the unit works perfectly. The glass panel is centered in the opening and the entire panel is flush with the roof.

I had an unused original style seal that we installed (without glue) and tried it. Although it comes up higher, it still isn't flush. We tried hand cranking with no success. We removed the pan again and ran it out of the car and everything appears to be operating correctly.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? It seems like if the seal was softer it would work. I just don't know what to try anymore.

I can't be much help because it's been so many years since I did mine, other than to offer some advice on what brand weatherstrip I personally like. I always try to get Metro Supersoft brand. I don't know however what brand Brian sells. I can offer this little tidbit: DONT buy SoffSeal. It's anything but soft, and will always render huge headaches!!!!
Back when I got mine I got it from 1Aauto, simply because there were no board members back then selling weatherstripping

Have you talked to Brian about this? I thought Brian's (gbodyparts) was an exact match. fit ??

Problem solved, but I pretty much took the easy way out. After dealing with the seal issue (with no success) over the holidays, I figured it would be best to just start over. I picked up a complete sunroof assembly at Ecology (pick-a-part) this weekend. The seals are still pliable so I won't have to worry about that for a while. At least I'll be able to park the car outside again. Finally got tired of working on cars outside in the cold when I have a perfectly good garage.

Thanks to everyone that posted. I really appreciated the help.

I was hoping you figured this out using the new seal... I have one on the shelf and need to swap mine out. Not looking forward to it...

I replaced mine with a NOS GM seal (in GM box with Made in Canada label) last summer. It's noticeably firmer than the original and I never did get the glass to go completely flush with the roof yet it does not seem to leak at all or create wind noise. I too wrestled with it for a good while and gave up. Fun job by the way...
