I called up ATR to order the dual 3" exhaust for one of my GNs

aparently it wont ship for another 2-4 weeks!

holy cripes

is there an alternate 3" dual exhaust solution thats as nice as the ATR and for a comparable price?

what would you guys suggest???

Bryan

i ordered one from atr and they told me 2-3 weeks and they shipped it out in one week and it took 11 days from when i called.

Jack Cotton
Precision sells Terry Houstons 2 3/4 and I think 3.5" .. not sure
Torque tech also has something

did you look into the 3" crossflow....not a "duel" in the only sense that it goes through one muffler, but it looks the same on the outside....doesn't sound all that bad either.

...and just in my opinion....I never saw the need for "that much" exhaust. I doubt our cars move enough exhaust to need that much plumbing....when you look at the the difference between the 2.5" duels and the crossflow 3"....there wasn't much difference in the 1/4.

jmtc....

Don't get the crossflow:

Ties up the whole back end of the car
Doesn't fit as well
Flows less

The 3" duals are the bad boys...

No, 3" single shot is the "bad boy". Louder, lighter, and you're only gonna flow what the dp puts out, which in most cases is a 3" pipe. I ditched a 3" crossflow for a single shot and knocked probably 25 lbs off the car. Performance wise, you will never see a gain from a single 3" to a dual 3". Its just a Y pipe.

IMHO, and I've had just about every exhaust system made for the T/R's under my cars at one time or another.

There is absolutely nothing that can compare to the ATR dual 3" system.

I would not recommend the crossflow 3" since it must share one muffler, that means it's NOT a straight through flow muff.

The main concern on our cars (any turbo car for that matter) is to reduce post turbo backpressure to as near zero as possible.

There can never be "too much" or "too big" a system.

The absolute perfect post turbo exhaust system would consist of a down pipe only long enough to get the exhaust out of the engine bay, and with as few bends as possible. Of course that isn't at all practical for a street car.

Hence, the dual 3" being the ideal situation.
Large
Stainless
Mandrel bent

The ATR crossflow has been in the 9's.

Should be good enough for most GN's. :)

Mine fits fine and doesn't tie up the middle of the car with extra weight. ;)

I needed valve springs long before needing true dual 3" exhausts.

Kenne-Bell also used to make stainless exhausts not sure what sizes they might have now.

Torque Tech is all aluminized and not stainless last I checked.

Try an ATR vendor like Jack Cotton he may have the system you want in stock.

Ummm....Dave, Have you looked at a crossflow system up close? The muffler IS straight through. I mean like a telescope, pick it up and look out the other side. the exhaust comes in the passenger side and goes straight out the drivers side. The other pipe comes out the passenger side and just vents the sound and gasses from inside the body of the muffler.

The ATR singleshot is very nice. I run that system on my GN, works very well, and helps with weight savings as described above.

Right....but if "space" behind the axle is of concern, then this isn't a wise choice...I'll agree with strike eagle on that part.

..I'm a little nervous about how my rebuilt rear is going to fit now since I had them install a girdle.....guess I'll find out, but I've been told that it is close.

Anyway, opinions are like bung holes, everyone is going to have them. So try to dig up simple facts: Fit, sound (db...not "how cool does it sound") and longevity. YOUR opinion of looks and sound is what matters....that's what makes your car "your car". If we all did the same thing, these cars would be pretty boring....kinda like the rice revolution (wings, graphics, etc) :)

...as for performance....I'm never going to buy that 3" duels will outperform 3" single of any fashion...or even 2.5 duels. I've searched and searched before buying and couldn't find anything that was conviencing one way or the other....so I went with looks and sound.

All this is very moot though...if you were asking about a buying a duel 1" exhaust....ok, then we can talk performance issues. Better yet, take a 9 sec GN...put any single 3" system on and compare it to the 3" duel....if you ever invest enough money into the car to run those times and there truly is a difference....then worry about it. However, the road to 9s is a long and expensive one after 11s....so choose wisely :D

OK, I gotta ask. What, if anything does a statement like that prove???

You make enough horsepower, you can take ANY exhaust system into the 9's.

It proves he won't be needing the true duals.

Look at the mods. in his sig.

Extra weight will hurt him LONG before he outflows it.

Not worth waiting on anything from ATR. ;)

And the ATR is a straight through muffler, perhaps you should have looked at it when testing yours.

How much you get for it when selling it?

AND if you have enough horsepower I bet you could outflow the 3" duals too.

Remember there's a Chevy V8 turbo on our frontpage. ;)

You can also fit a nice big driveshaft in with the crossflow system that I doubt would fit with the large duals.

And you can fit the HR parts bar back there too.

Nowhere near the rear end either, more like near the gas tank like the stocker. :)

Best bet would be to do a search and buy what's available at your cost and sound level.
