I have the ATR 14 inch K&N in the cannister.I have been told by some people that this hurts the performance.Does anyone have any facts one way or the other about this system?Bruce

No facts of my own, but I've heard the same. I'd guess that if there were any loss of performance over the newer cold air setups, it would be at WOT where you might not be able to get as good of a flow.

I went from a "Stock" type K&N filter to the ATR 14" set-up.

I have to admit, I noticed NO gain in performance!

And ATR claims something like 20 horse more from their set up.........?????? Who's kiddin who?

My question back to you though.....is......how could the 14" possibly Hurt performance??

From what I have heard it is the cannister itself. They claim that it hurts the ability to breathe. But I wonder how a 4 inch opening behind the headlight could not keep up with a 3inch intake hose. But, that is why I am asking this question,I need to know one way or another.Bruce

It apparently has something to do with how the air flows around inside the canister. I've had two over the years, a Kenne-Bell unit and the ATR unit. In both cases I was able to document a noticeable improvement at the track when the canister was removed. Not something you're going feel in the butt dyno, but it's there.
