Wait, is that what the worm does? I haven't been able to read those links yet. My computer started shutting down on me yesterday with some error message about
"Remote Procedure Call Service RPC termintated unexpectedly"
"Shut down initiated by NT Authority System, System Shutdown"
Is that it? I can't send emails of any size at all, that's usually when it shuts down.

Yep, that was it. Hope that removal tool and patch work. Is this something that would have started that the same day you got it in an email, or would it have been from a whle back? I only got 2 emails it could have come from yesterday, they were specific and certainly from the people who sent them, but there were attachments I had to open.

I have been running a firewall for the past 2 weeks to prevent the MSRPC notice boxes from popping up on my screen. Over the last few days, the log has shown hundreds of different computers probing ports instead of just a small group repeatedly probing. If anybody wants, I can send you a list of hundreds of computers infected with this worm. From reading the symptoms of it, it will probe ports 135 and 4444 to get access to infect you. It also looks like one of the best written virus's I have seen yet.

The removal tool and fix seem to have done the job. I'm glad, I just reformatted the drive on this one 2 mos ago. Don't want to do it again. Naturally, Norton's updates ran out in July, so I got to go buy the newer one.
