Friend of mine bought an 87 gn that had been built up. The orginal owner had a dfi on it with an open loop chip and no O2 sensor. He removed the dfi and that was it. The car has kenne bell headers. A te44, 30# injectors, adj fpr, high flow cat. He failed the first test without my help at all. Then he came and seen me. The fp was at 54 pds with line off. I lowered the fuel pressure to 36 with the line on and told him we could try it. I put some brake clean in the tank and went to the station. It got alot better but the nox would of failed him if the hc got low enough, but it didn't. The hc's would shot right off the chart during his first test. The second they spike high but not off the chart. Then we put a heated O2 in it. Put a caspers thumbwheel with an emmissions setting and hooked up the engine light. He went to the station and it failed again. Then his engine light came on and it was code 24, no vss. Pulled the cluster out and the inductive was completly missing. Ordered a vss and installed it and now the engine light stays off. But now he has to pay $20 for a test. I had access to a t-link but someone borrowed it and won't get it back till next week. The station won't give him a wavier. I am wondering if it does any good to disconnect the wastegate rod so there is no boost during testing, therefore there is less air and less hc's. Have any advice?
