anyone here have the original stock radio or have installed a stock one back in their ride? the reason i ask is because im looking to install one of the older original style radios back in mine wen i bought the car it came with nothing in it (no biggie) so now i have loose wires and wen i seen the back of the stock original radio that im looking to buy it has a unit for a plug in in the back will it still work on my car with all the wires spliced?or do i need some kind of adapter plug in?

I just got done doing a radio in an 84 rivy

To do it the right way, you need metra harness number 71-1677-1. It is actually the harness that your car would have had from gm.

The harness would have originally been three separate groups of four, but metra bundled it all into one plug.

I got mine at Autozone, soldered all the wires, and the radio worked great.

the link will take you to the illustration of the plug.

good luck,

thanx for that info very for some reason i cant get through to that so how did u know wat wire went where? is their a wiring diagram that guided u on how connect the right wire?

Yes and I have a service manual

Yes there is a color code on the bag it comes in. I can also scan in a copy of the service manual wiring diagram if that will help you.

Just need to know if your radio is concert sound 2 and your email or I can post a link to the pictures here.

Do you have extra little speakers in your lower door panel?

There should be an extra carpeted hump on the front part of the lower door panel if your car came with the upgraded sound system. The hump covers an extra set of speakers.

I will scan that stuff in tomorrow for you.

hey jerry thanx for that diagram i just got that radio wiring harness u told me about it came with the 12 pin and seperate 2 pin plug which fit just fine wat im wondering is if u or any of the guys know wat the black somewat thick wire plug on the back of the factory radio is for its a 1 pin plug?

You talking about this plug?

Does the end look somewhat like this?

If so that is the end of the antenna wire coming in from the fender mounted antenna.

If the wire is chopped on that you will probably have to get a new antenna.

Jerry jr

no its not that one i know that is the antenna this one is like an adapter plug similiar to radio harness that connects into another plug except has a 1 wire pin i just noticed the wire is actually white and has a black cover over the whole white wire

can you take a picture for me?

Can you take a pic and attach it to a post for me so I can see what your seeing.

Jerry jr

Hmmmm... different

The two prong plug under the black one is for 12volt power and illumination, but I've never seen the other plug unless it came out of a car that had a factory cb in it. I have never messed with any of those, but I know they had some sort of interface with the radio.

I would think if you had all the wires hooked up on the right of the pic and the 2 wires (power and illum) you should be jamming. Dont think it is needed if you ask me.
