My 86 has an automatic trunk release kit installed by the previous owner. I believe it is the kit similar to that sold by Kirbans. It worked before I took the car apart for paint. Doesn't seem to work now. I think the problem has to do with one of the electrical connectors. There is a single wire that goes into the end of the solenoid and another double wire connector (one is a ground and the other is a blue wire with a black stripe). The double wire connects to a small white doodad with a small cable that ends up connecting to the actual lock itself. This wire broke, but I soldered it back to the lock. Long story short, it doesn't work now. The solenoid doesn't even make sound. Any idea how this thing works and why it might not be working now?

You'll have to get someone to test to see if you have power once the switch is depressed at the end of the wire where it connects to the actual trunk release.

Also check the power at the switch.

The solenoids do go bad if you need 1 let me know. You may also want to make sure the bolt is tight. It may have been removed when painted & isn't making a good ground to complete the circuit.
