Anybody ever had an MSD go bad? I've been chasing a miss in the car for a while. I put a new Casper's coil pack and module on the car last yeat after Moroco. I just tested it with the coil pack tester with the msd hooked up the middle coil doesn't fire all the time and they all quit if you turn it up all the way. If i test it without the msd in the system all is well. Anybody ever run into this before? Thanks

CALL MSD TECH LINE.ASK THEM.I KNOW WITH THE 6AL YOU CAN SEND IT IN AND THEY RECONDITION IT FOR LIKE $50.MAYBE THEY DO SOMETHING OF THE SAME FOR YOU?..JOEL

I think a couple of the electronic gurus said the MSD was fairly hard on the stock coils. The stock coils (or stock type coils) may be breaking down or shorting out with the added current from the MSD. I wonder if anyone is using the MSD unit with those Accel coils?

I have no personal experience with the DIS4 but the only thing keeping me from buying it is reliability. I have a few friends with MSD ignitions on their Mustangs and everyone has suffered a failure. One in particular in a nitroused SVO left us on the side of the road. Luckily he bypassed it in 30 minutes and we were on our way. It's too bad because the idle imporoved a lot and it made a difference in power while on the bottle. Unfortunately it let go when we were on the 150shot and there was a big pop. The next day we discovered it had a blown headgasket.

I too had problems with my MSD on my stang , but that unit is an antique.

I would think that the Digital stuff would be better. have you checked the connections in the adapter plate?

I use this system on my TTA with no problems.I use the gold terminal Accell coil pack.HTH

Bought my first MSD-6 in 1977...and a half-dozen units since...never a failure, & always improvements in performance.

:)

No Louie i haven't checked the connections yet. It fires fine if i put the bypass plug in it. I'll check it though. Thanks

Many guys I know only use MSD ignitions, and nevered had a problem before.

I had my DIS-4 for two years and went through two cars. You also can't beat their tech support and customer service.

I've got one. The problem I'm having is that at 6300 rpm the ignition breaks up like hitting a rev limiter. Spoke with tech this morning; he mentioned noise in the trigger line. Widen ? plug gap.

Gonna put a scope on the trigger line at the box and put the simulator on tonight and see what's going on.

Any suggestions on how to isolate the trigger wire from noise?

Paul,

Keep them away from 12volt power lines as well as the spark plug wires. By the way are your wires solid or supression type?
