What are the symptoms of a torque convertor going bad. Can they leak tranny fluid and will it effect the shifts?

what are the symtoms of your transmission so we can interface that with the converter issue if there is one?

All I know is this. The transmission never leaked a drop until I recently had the motor pulled and a complete rebuild. (on the motor) Now it takes twice as long to shift from 1st to 2nd. Even 3rd to 4th is starting to take a little longer. I've gotten under the car a couple of times to try and locate the leak. Wiped it down really clean then let it run for 20-30 minutes and not a drop! I drive it 10 miles to work eveyday and after parking it sometimes it will just leak a couple of drops and the next day a big puddle! Crazy. It shows to be right on the full mark on the dipstick. BTW, this is the original stock tranny with 120K miles. The only thing that has been done to it is to replace the stock d-5 converter with another stock d-5 about a year ago. Thanks, R.B.

Could it be your pump that is leaking? Is it the stock 7 vane pump?

Mine would lay a few drops here and there, then a big puddle after sitting for a few days...check it out...may also be the torque conv seal?

I actually just had to have my torque convertor replaced. The first thing I noticed was that it felt the convertor clutch wouldn't engage when i stopped. Shortly after that i lost all but 1st and reverse. It turns out the blades in the convertor were rubbing creating a small amount of debris that got into the lockup solenoid causing the problems.

Yes, it's the stock pump. It's just strange that after driving the exact same distance every morning and at approximately the same speed, that one day it leaks a few drops if any, and the next day a pretty good size puddle! It shifts ok during normal driving but at wot the shifts are soft and drawn out. R.B.

i upgraded to a 13-vane pump, better cooling for the transmission as well. When you find the problem, I'd suggest paying $30-50 for a new pump as well, a good investment down the road :D

I don't think the converter would cause a long shift. Sounds more like slipping clutches to me. But hey it's been a long time since I have done anything with an auto.

misadjusted tv cable, low oil level.leak sounds like tv cable or filler tube boot.
