I just put Baer brakes on front and rear and need to know if I need to use a proportioning valve?

I didn't.

You do need to follow the rear instructions and modify the proportioning valve.

Actually it's called the combination valve, not a real proportioning adjustable valve.

The combination valve is located on the frame under the driver's foot board. The best way to fix that problem is to replace it with a 4 disc prop valve. That way all the lines and the wire hook up. The 2 disc valve is designed to limit rear brake pressure to 600psi, roughly half of the front brake pressure. Drum brakes can lock over 600psi, discs need over 1600 to lock (average) With the old valve, the most pressure you can get to the rears is the 600psi. Those Baers need all the pressure they can get. They are the same calipers as used on the 89-96 vettes. I do have that valve at a cost of $69.

It will work without but to get the full potential of your new brakes an adjustable prop valve is recommended.
