i am not familiar with all the turbo designations. could anyone tell me which turbos are ball bearing and which are not? for a street car for quick spool up are ball bearing turbos worth the money?
thanks
I'm not an expert by any means, but I think the ball bearing turbos have BB before the name. I've read they spool up much faster than the other kind. If you have the money, I definately think they are worth it.
BB turbos are VERY expensive. If you have tons of cash layin' around, go for it. But the TA49 and TE44 apparently work well with the stock convertor, and are good for mid-high 11's, so I don't see what's wrong with them, at around 1/3rd the price of a BB
I don't know how much money you have to spend, but I have a BB T-72 and it spools WAYY faster than my old TE-62 did. I don't think it would make much of a difference or be needed with a smaller turbo though as they spool pretty well anywyas. But I was going big with the turbo and decided to go ball bearing, and am VERY GLAD I did!
i read on here once that BB turbos also have better transient response, meaning if you punch it from a roll it takes less time to spool up to full boost b/c of the reduced friction of the BB's. heres what turbonetics has to say about it http://www.turboneticsinc.com/catalog/ceramic.html
