I am not debating the effects steroids have on strength and muscle development. I am debating that strength is the key to hitting a baseball. It's not. As a former athlete and current medical professional, I have plenty of education on the effects of steroids. As stength increases the tendons become the weak link, and the user becomes more prone to tears. Bigger and stronger, yes. More able to hit a baseball, not really.

I don't follow baseball and don't care about Bonds, but with all the news and talk of steriods I was just curious if he ever tested positive for steriods?

MLB is not allowed to test for steroids or other banned substances.

the record books are for the quality of player someone is, not the quality of person. i think not putting him in is a mistake. what he did was on the field and thats what the record books are about. what about babe ruths drinking i've heard about? would you take him out because he wasn't an ideal athlete?

but drinking hurt the babe and steririods is helping out bonds

The stuff Barry was using was new designer stuff and pretty much undetectible. Until now.

"As far as I am concerned the record by Maris and Ruth still stands. Sosa and McGuire were juiced also. If you don't think so, you are crazy."

they were on a different growth inhancing hormone but it was illigel until last year i belief

I think personly roids are bad for baseball but roids dont make u see the ball or hit the ball. And the first thing u have to do is make contact with the ball. Yes they might not of hit all the home run but i still think that people like barry and sosa are good for baseball.

What Big Mac took was pro-hormones, which will be banned Jan 20th of next year. It is not steroids and what he took then compares nothing to the pro-hormones they have now. Also, if you look at pictures of when he was younger and now, do you think he is going to look the same? I don't think the guy blew up like Bonds did. Look at pictures of me a couple of years ago and look at me now and some might think that I take steroids but I don't. It was just a year and a half ago when I really started to workout. All I am saying is that when you can work out w/ the right plan, eat right, and take some supplements(ie-cratine, glutamine, and whatever else you might take) you can achieve alot. Some more than others. I guess I am sticking up for the guy because I met him and he was just a stand out dude.:D

Should we take back the '82 Cardinals World Championship because Hernandez and Andujar were Coked up half the time?

I think what is more important here is the moral issue or even better, the integrity of the players. I'm more worried about the integrity of the game and the players than some tainted records. Records are not what I like about the game. Of course I was caught up in the McGwire and Sosa HR chase, but that is because I am a Cardinals fan. I couldn't tell you when Bonds hit 73 but I know exactly where I was for McGwire's #70.

I am a baseball fan first and foremost, even ahead of these black Buicks. I enjoy the strategy and concept of every at-bat being a battle that could determine the game even if it's in the first inning. Home Runs are cool and all, but the best baseball and the best teams should not rely on long balls to determine the outcome. The team that led the league in HR's is statisticaly unlikely to win Championships. Forget the numbers, but it's in ESPN mag this month.

I know the long ball puts people in the seats, but there was no attendance problems in the '60s when pitching was the dominant aspect of the game. People will come to see the best do what they do best.

What baseball should be most concerned about is the integrity of the game and the players, not who gets into the Hall. Awards are not what baseball is about. Its about families and hot dogs and a perfectly groomed patch of grass. Baseball needs to immediately seperate itself from the path of other sports like NBA and NFL and set a higher standard. Something that we as fathers won't be hesitant to introduce to our children. Baseball should be the benchmark of integrity in sports.

Restore the integrity of the game and people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

You of course are talking about the stuff that he has admitted to taking. It is funny now that he is golfing he is back to his more slender physique. He was as big a roid head as anyone out there.

Big Mac stood out all right. Big red roid head is what he was. He was not a stand up guy imho. He made made baseball into a softball league for a couple of years. I wonder who did roids first him or Canseco back in the Oakland days? I wonder if Larussa has any knowedge... hrrmmm

How long have you been going to the gym? Once you stop, you probably ain't going to look like you were and I am guessing that if you retire from a sport that might require you to go to the gym to just spending time doing things like golf and spending time w/ your family, you really don't go to the gym like you would have normally. You can lose it alot faster than it took to gain it.

I guess I just stick up for him for because: 1) I met him and he was one helluva guy, talked to him for awhile and it never seemed like once he didn't care what I had to say2) he was on national tv balling his eyes out because he was trying to explain how bad it hurts him to watch kids get beat so he said that he was donating a million dollars from his salary to a fundraiser and I think it was for every year he was there,3) being in St. Louis, athletes were always on tv doing things around the community, and he was involved w/ alot of them,4) whether you or anyone disagrees w/ me, both Sosa and Big Mac helped bring fans back, bottom line. Maybe not everyone but alot of folks. The #3 one is probably like any other city w/ a major league team; getting around the community to show face.

Either way, we can both be wrong because we will never know if he did it or not. All I know is pro-hormones can do alot for someone. I guess if that is cheating then shame on him!:D Isn't this thread about that jacka## Bonds? He was damn good back in the day but how do you just now start cranking them out now at his age?
