When people refer to "stage 2" are they referring to the 86-87 componnants? I've been assuming this now I'm not sure. (still getting my feet wet)
I was talking to an engine builder and he had recommended a stage block he said was thicker and stronger- is this the 109? or is it something aftermarket? Also, when I see people on here with 600+ at the wheels, are you able to do that with a 109 and have good longevity? That's my long term goal to build a beast like that.

Stage blocks are motorsport blocks made by Buick. There is also a TA aluminum block that I believe are still available.

Theres a on center and off center stage blocks. If youre looking for a "drop in" block, off center is what youre looking for but its not exactly a drop in.

Definitely not production blocks.

IMO anytime you get close to 11.00 with a production block, youre kind of on borrowed time but there are things you can do to the 109 blocks to make them servive under more horsepower. Girdle, billet main caps, etc.

Are these blocks still produced? I can find an aluminum block for over 6k too rich for my blood.

They havent been produced since the late 80s I dont believe. You can still pick them up but theyre EXPENSIVE.

They come up here fairly often. Post up in the Parts Wanted section.

Of course, check the for sale section, too.

Lost of folks are using facebook market place, too.

Buyer beware, no matter the selling place.

What is a 4.1 block?
It's a later model Buick V6 engine that several TB guys have been successful with. I think they came in Typhoons and Cyclones.

Do some research, figure out what you want (ie: HP, Torque, Streetability,) then make a budget. Find the right parts, Block/Turbo/Cam/Converter/Transmission. It won't be cheap, no matter what you decide to build, just make sure it's what you want before you start thowing money at parts.

Do you have an engine/block/parts at all?

Do you have a good car to build this engine for? Gotta have a good canvas to start with!

Then, ask lots and lots of questions. There are no dumb ones... Well, there are, but folks here won't give you too much shit... Just some good hearted ribbing.

Lot's of folks here give good advice and support to others in their endevors.

Good luck to you.

The 4.1 block is a 4.1 Liter V6. I believe it was widely used in the early ’80s available in the non turbo Regals and the larger platform Buick, Olds and Pontiac as well as Cadillacs.
I believe they used the same crank as the turbo 3.8 with a larger bore.
You can get stoker cranks to bump it up to 4.5L (276 cubes).
I’m pretty sure the Cyclones and Typhoons used the Chevy 4.3L V6, but would have been cool if they used the Buick engine.
It’s another engine option for you.
