hello; I need to replace those 8mm bat.cable ends, the ones you tighten to the bat. Any slick way of getting them off and on without problems?

Are you talking just the bolt or the entire end? The bolt just pushes out. Putting a little grease on it helps.

hello; I have to replace just the bolt as it's rounded off pretty bad. So you say it just pushes off and on?

grab onto what's left of the hex head- it's actually 5/16", not 8mm- with a vise grip and kind of wedge it sideways and twist it as you pull it out of the rubber insulator..
the new one goes in the same way- but make sure the new bolt is as long as the old one.. if it's longer, it will bottom out in some batteries and you will never get the cable tight and might even strip the threads in the battery as you try to get the cable tight, too short and the threads in the battery could strip out when you tighten it..

hello; Well that was easy as I just got the car out and I havn't seen the cable conn. in a bit. Is there someone offering new repro bat cables for these cars or can you still get them from GM? My pos. cable is split at the end. It still works but I'd like to replace it.
Funny I thought that 8 mm was it and that's probably why it rounded a bit. I couldn't really tighten it like I wanted.
thanks

Caspers Electronics sells a stock replacement part #102024 ($72.82) they also sell a High Current version part # 102111 ($92.95) as well, it all depends on how many amps your alternator is capable of putting out. The High Current version is for 175-200 amp alternator, but I think it would be a good upgrade even if your running the stock alternator and its only $20 more.
