Looking at buying a car on fleebay that has a BDS blower on it. Has anyone had any dealings with a blower motor? I understand that they dont have alot of life expendency and you have to re-build them often,is that correct?Everyone has guided me very good so far on getting parts for my GN and I will listen to all of your imput on this. Thanks

I built the 454 supercharged motor in my 66 pro street Chevelle, don't know who is telling you that the motor has to be rebuilt frequently but I sure wouldn't take further advice from them. Supercharger basically does the same thing as the turbochargers on our Turbo Regals EXCEPT it isn't "free" horsepower like an exhaust driven turbo. It takes horsepower to drive the supercharger since it is connected to the crankshaft.

Just like our turbo motors, you just have to watch for detonation or you WILL be rebuilding the motor.
Just make sure the motor has the proper parts to handle supercharging and you should be OK. Any receipts for the motor build??

I drove my Chevelle all over the place including trips to Super Chevy events in Penn and New Hampshire from here in CT.

TR, I think he was talking about replacing the sealing strips inside the blower when they wear.

A blower motor is like any other high performance motor. If the motor was built to handle a power adder then you will be fine.

I had a BBC with a ex pro mod 14-71 blower that I reclearance to run pump gas with. Topped it off with FAST EFI. The thing was the balls. Ran all over the place with no problems.

I don't think you need to worry about restripping street blowers. That is something we do with the race stuff. Now with the tight tolerances we can go a bit before restripping them. This is done just because we might lose a few psi. A street blower running 6 psi won't even see it.

As long as the person owning the car hasnt ever "Sneezed" it then you should be fine. if it were possible i would try and get a look at the rotors under the top adapter.... that will tell you what abuse the engine has seen.

Mmmmmm....... nuthing like a big-ol-roots to wake some fear in ya.

A.j.

What would you look at on the rotors? Look for chips or wear on them? How would you tell on the wear? Thanks

You will see where the rotors mess together the teflon coating will be worn off or you might see some material transfer. I little wear is fine, but if it looks like a sand pit went through it that is bad.

+1

if there are shiney spots or worn spots and the teflon feels lumpy then you can bet it has been sneezed. (extreme back fired and warped the case)
