Beginner Questions

An introduction first--I'm the original owner of an 87 GN. Totally stock!!! Where should I start??? Would like to go mild. It used to seem like the fastest car ever. My other rides seemed to have slowed it down a little.

1) My car has T-tops and I do not like the flex. I'm told the rear seat brace is the best place to start with that.

2) A little more power is desired. Intake, chip, exhaust, turbo, fuel, spark? What order for a streetable car without taking away stock appearance that can't be re-bolted to original?

Go to www.gnttype.org and read the tech articles...you'll find a WORLD of information there. Get the rear seat braces or make them yourself to eliminate the body flex...or at least cut it down quite a bit. Adding a KN filter, a test pipe and a chip will start you in the right direction. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump with hotwire kit and adjustable wastegate actuator will set you back about 300 bucks or so and make a notable improvement in performance.

Thanks Ian. I've read there. Just wanted some feedback from the folks that have done it. I'm not trying to make it an un-streetable screamer. I just want a little more power. It lacks the top end I'm used to. I've had it in storage for a while and am finally enjoying it. Where are the best places to get the things from?

You're starting in the right place...the GNs are really easy to wake up. They hurt in the airflow and fuel flow department. A new downpipe and test pipe help out alot along with the other mods I mentioned earlier. The stock turbo is a good unit and can take you into the high 12's without THAT much trouble. Traction becomes an issue too...Nitto and BFG drag radials help.

There are alot of good vendors here. I've used Cotton's Performance and Mark Hueffman (BuickGN.com) successfully. Many people swear by Ramchargers and Mease Fabrications as well. Use the SEARCH option on this site when you have specific questions about stuff, it's probably been asked already. Hope this helps some!
