Picked up this 1998 1/2 ton Dodge Dakota, 63151 miles for $750  ! A soldier was leaving and did not want to pay to have it shipped back to the US. Has A/C, cruise, power windows/locks, alarm and other goodies. I think I got a killer deal!

Nice deal !! That's how I picked up my old Audi 200 T/Q over there...I see its got Deutsche Kennzeichen ??? Does it have to go through TUV ?? No more old USA plates ??

Well those are the "new" US plates. The US sized plates all start with "HK"or "AF". The European sized US plates all start with "AD". We just now are able to get normal "WI" plates, for Wiesbaden, for security issues. I can not use the "WI" plates because this truck will be shipped to the US and it must have "HK" plates on it. We do not go through the Normal TUV, we go through an American TUV. We still have German inspectors but since American cars are a little different, they are not as hard on us.

ok..cool...wondered what the deal was...no Americans anymore where I go and the brits use their own plates..."back in the day", I had these white plates w/black numbers and USA top to bottom..We were a remote site and no inspection EVER..LOL...Do they still let you get a German license ?? I was able to pay a small fee and get a Fuhrerschein..Until a couple years ago, I had the old Tri-Fold pink one..

We get a US Forces Certificate of License/Fuhrerschein fur Privatfahrzeuge. About $10. Sometimes the inspections can be a pain. They go through periods were they look for a certain issue. This month was parking brakes. Last month was oil leaks. You know how it can be.
