Besides the ID tag, how do you identify a turbo 200-4R?

Im sure if someone really wanted to, they could put a tag on it or swap it out. I want to be sure that I get the right one, so how else would I be able to tell if its legit or not? How hard is it to rig up? Is there any way of telling if its been switched out? Thanks

I need this info, too. Where is the "tag" located? Any other way to determine which 2004R you have?

Its located at the tail of the tranny on the casing, I believe on the passenger side. Its a tag with its code on it, you cant miss it. However, Im wanting to know other than the tag if there is a way to verify if its a true GN tranny. Im sure someone could put on a BRF tag and it be a totally different tranny and I wouldnt know.

My 87 has "pink" paint on the VB. And I know it is the original tranny for the GN

A couple of the valves are unique, apparently..but checking them requires disassembly of the valve body and knowing what you're looking at. I believe most of the valve bodies will be stamped "BR" or somesuch. The ID tags are painted steel and are riveted to the rear of the trans. It would be hard to counterfeit the tags reasonably or match the rivets on the case.

Do a search this has been discussed before, there are numbers on the valve body pistons which ID the trans and no you do not have to dissasemble to see them.

all hi performance valve bodies have a third and fourth gear pressure switch from gns and a pipe plug installed in the third gear hole on monte carlo ss hurst olds and 442s.also the 2004r doesnt have a bolt on tail shat making it easily identifiable.
