What's the best gasket for between the downpipe and the exhaust housing on the turbo.
I have a copper one now and it is leaking. Is there something better?
TIA

really shouldn't need a gasket in either place if the surfaces are true

As stated, there is a copper gasket there now and it leaks. How would I make sure the ATR pipe surface is true. Do I just sand it flat? I guess I should probably get that copper gasket out of there.
Thanks again

I disagree, we just replaced my stock turbo and there was a donut gasket between the turbo and downpipe, and mine also leaks now. I would have to say that ATR's is probably the best, I've never gotten anything but that level of quality from them.

I never had one. Leaks there, don't effect anything. Just file the downpipe flange flat with a 10" file.

well, you take your exhaust housing and the downpipe (and headers) to a machine shop and have them trued

otherwise you will fight leaks forever (none of the available gaskets last very long in that extreme environment)

I just sanded mine a little bit with a mini sander. Would a little silicone applied to the surface hurt anything? I might just put someof that on if it wont.

I've had this problem since i've owned my car until reciently.

I took the turbo off replaced studs (only 1 broke :P) and then sanded the turbo flange for about 2 hours with 3m metal sandpaper and the turbo flange. I still used a gasket but it was a graphite one from autozone.

If you dont use a gasket it WILL leak, there is no doubt about it. You can never make a true surface without machining espically with aftermarket headers like me.

If you sand both of them down perfect, use one of the autozone 97 cent gaskets with some copper rtv you will not leak.

It's soooooo nice to feel the car spool up quickly!

Thanks guys. Like I said, this has nothing to do with the headers. That seals perfect. Where it leaks is right where the wastegate hole is (external gate, ATR DP). So I'm thinking this may have a little bit to do with performance especially keeping a rock solid boost level.
I'll remove the dp again, sand and try and do whatever to get a good seal there

Thanks again guys
