I need a nice oil pump for my 109 build here... Bearing clearances are rather large as i plan to race the crap out of it (2.2 to 2.4 thou on mains).

Currently i have the front cover which ive ported, ready to go, but need an oil pump kit. There are several options available with larger gears, spacers, boosterplates, etc... and I am unsure of what will work the best. I'm NOT going to sump it!

TA perf. doesnt recommend the tall gears, but then again, i think i need higher volume with my clearances --- and what does the booster plate give me? HELP Me!!!

What is my best option for a kit?

If you have a stock type of cover regarding gear length (I did last year & the cover was Not even ported & Not set up to the max) & I used the TA Booster Plate & the Adjustable Spring & had good pressure hot & cold with 10-40. The spring adjuster affects the oil pressure under RPM & not at idle. I also have an older style KB Booster plate with the mods done to the oil pump that I used for some years back around 90-94? It gives more than the TA Plate I believe? Was gonna do some tests this year just to have something documented. Read Earl Browns front cover & oil pump article at turbobuicks for some real good tips! Many options out there! Cover needs to be ported & set up correct to gain max pressure no matter what.
PS: I am going to try the HV pump with it ported & set up properly & the adjustable spring & see what I get next summer.

Well i had the high volume pump kit with the taller gears on the last engine, and I had crappy oil pressure when it warmed up and my clearances were tighter than what i have now. The engine was fine and all, but then again, i didnt race it that much at all.

What about that biggie adapter? Does that do anything?

On my rebuild which was .002 on the rods and mains, I had the stock front cover mod done by Russ Merritt and he also installed a booster plate kit. With 10-30 I have 25-30psi at idle hot, 60psi at cruise and 65-70psi at WOT. At cold start up I have 70psi. I'm using the yellow spring I believe, the light blue spring gives some more pressure.

yea i just got done talking to the oilpump guy, earl brown, and he said he's had good luck with just the stock gears, setup right and with a few of his mods to replace the booster plate.

IDK, im leaning towards just a standard melling kit... the HV seems like it's unneccessary, but its hard to tell
