Best place for a temp gauge?

Guys, where's the best place on the engine to install a temp gauge and what's preferred, a mechanical or electric?
On my 70 Z28 I have a mehanical instead of the stock electric hooked up.

Location: Cylinder head between exhaust ports.

Type: Electric, IMO, because I feel they are more accurate from my own exp.

camaro: cylinder head.

gn: where the stock sensor is.

For the GN and the stock sensor is where? Is this stock sensor an idiot light?
