Best Servo ?

What is the best servo available for the 2004R? Which one has the most surface area?

A member here makes a large servo... Probably has the largest area.

I believe the Sonnax is the largest commercial one.

Then the Superior/Fairbanks. IIRC the older 200 3 speed with a 112 pistron, 134 cover is about the same as the Superior in apply area.

Then the smaller 111/133 cover 200 servo and stock 86-87 GN servo with a 694 cover are about the same size.

I've had good luck with the Superior as have others.

It seems like Chris has mentioned that there is a problem when you get the apply area too big. Never hurts on the 1-2 shift, but causes an issue on the 2-3 when the trans has to kick the servo off.

IIRC he mentioned the apply area is about right on the 112 200 servo and it is the same size as the Superior.

the 112 is excellent and we are also getting ready to program the cnc machine to make our own version of the 112 with lip seals .never use a servo that deletes the inner cushion spring as the energy absorbed during the 1/2 shift(although spring compression is minimal reduces band lug breakage and improves band apply accumulation .this energy also aids in band release on a 2/3 shift.we are thinking of inorporating a threaded servo pin to aid in adjustment although it is not for sure . similar to the mitsubishi km type servos.

This would be cool as it is a pain to get the adjustment on the 2nd gear band just right (well, atleast I find it to be). I know you tout the extension pin method in the book but the threaded servo pin sounds like it may be a better way to get the job done.

The Sonnax servo is a lip seal version of the 112. IMO its the best servo money can buy.
