I didnt want to take over the post about front mount intercoolers so I just started a new one. But like it say, who makes the best stock location intercooler? Im lloking at low 10's- high 9's and want to find a stock location intercooler that will get me there if possible. Of course Ill have a lot of supporting mods but Id figure I would get what intercooler I need out of the way. I know the FMIC get a lot more "colder" air but when you compare stock location mount and FMIC, how much would the difference be as far as ET/MPH? And would you be able to run more boost on FMIC? I want to keep the "stock" look somewhat but if Ill end up loosing more than .5 in the 1/4 by going with a stock location unit then I might just go FMIC. Thanks fellas!

If your goal is low 10s/high 9's, I would go with a front mount. Not saying a stock location can't do it. I heard the PTE stock location went 9s. But all of the 10 second and faster cars that I have seen run FMIC. Low 11s/high 10s a stock location would be good. You should probably call some of the big Buick shops and get their input. Try Bill Anderson, Jack Cotton, Precision Turbo, Mike Licht to name a few.

Do you have the rest of the combo figured out for low 10s/high 9s? The IC is probably the least of your worries. There are several of ICs out there that can do that. The problem is keeping the rest of the car in one piece. ;)

Easy choice

My buddy Orlando down here has been 9.96 @137mph using the PTE stock location IC on his stock block GN... In my opinion it is the best one on the market, 19 rows of the best core technology (Garrett high efficiency bar and plate) and having 3" inlet/outlet makes it supperior to some of the others as well.. Last I heard Orlando is looking for some mid 9's so he is upgrading to a FMIC, but he had no problems running 9.90's with this IC as can be seen in this vid~

Also, here are a few pics of his motor and the PTE stock location IC-

Mease 24 row if you can get one.More ground clearance than a stock IC.You lose ground clearance with the PTE,Thunderfab, etc.Youd have to buy one used as Keith is out of the Buick game. And yes ive seen all the IC's listed on cars and I own a Mease 24 row:)

I have the PTE on my car and the ground clearance has never been an issue  I've seen some stock location ICs on cars that are lowered that I wouldn't want to drive on the street, but never had a problem on my car or my dad's which has a 27 row CAS V4R

PTE in a TTA

I also have been looking at the PTE front mount. Will it bolt into a TTA. I also have about the same aspirations Low 11's high 10's. Any replies appreciated. :)

put a big neck on a stocker and convert it to liquid!!!! Don't always have to go bigger, sometimes smarter will work just as well.

Orlando use to have a stock IC that was boxed, basically a poor mans Liquid cooler... We use to call it "Mr. January" and it worked well enough for him to run 10.0's for several years, problem is he got tired of having to buy 15 bags of ice everytime he went to race so that is why he upgraded to the PTE..

Well thanks for the replies guys! As for the rest of my "10/9 Sec"
Recipe I plan on taking no short cuts and this is a "project" as I am in no rush to runs 10's next summer or anything. I plan on doing basic bolt on first then see where that takes me (lokking at maybe mid 11's) Bolt ons like I/C, alky kit, exhuast, Turbo upgrade, ect. Then Ill beef up the trans and rear diff to get the power to the ground nice and solid. Once I get used to the car and get more info (sort of get me feet wet) Ill probly tear down the engine, bore it our maybe .010 and get the bottom end balalnced. Ill upgrade the heads, roller cam, and do all the valve train. Go with JE Pistons and upgrade the internals. Forged crank and engine girdle. Ill blue print everything as I put it together and then go from there. Im thinking it will be a few years but good to get info now. Im planning on installing a roll cage here pretty soon and do some body work. My buddy from work (I work at MB as a tech) does cages for Baja bugs and other off road cars and he has everything at his house to do this (ie tube benders, welders, plasma cuter, ect, ect) so Im thinking maybe realisticly Ill be done in 4-6 years........
