hey there guys,
so i've been stripping harness, hoses and about every other connection to the engine and tranny, ready to lift it out as this car (79 turbo coupe) is being parted out.
what's the best way to yank it out with the cherry picker? i don't want to break anything in the intake/turbo department by slinging the chain around (although i'm not gonna use those but anyways..). i have a balancer and a balance plate that i used to pull carb intake SBCs out successfully before but not sure about this one here.
btw, anyone needs parts? ;)
thanks in advance!

I just bolt the chains to the ends of the heads. I've always done it with the turbo already off.

X2. I also use a second chain from the front of the other head to the hook to level the engine side to side, especially when putting it back in.

Ah, front of the head.. fair enough. I also have a balancer so engine side to side balance shouldn't be hard to pull off.. However, how about the rear of the engine? So basically you're just pulling it through with the engine its nose way up?

One chain from the front of the passenger side head to the rear of the drivers side head with a loop in the chain formed with a long bolt. Then a chain from the front of the drivers side head to the hook or the loop to level it. It triangulates the load.

That sounds like a smart thing to do.. just, how do you keep the chain from damaging intake etc with it being stretched diagonally across it?
Also, what parts do you take off before doing that? Turbo, Carb, all accessories? I want the accessories out as well, on or off the engine, but if need be I'll unbolt them separately before pulling the engine.

You can pull the turbo, plenum and carb as an assembly. Two bolts at the turbine, three at the compressor 'foot', the EGR manifold and then carb plenum brackets.

Just leave a little slack in the chain and the intake will be fine. It's cast iron - you cant hurt it.
