Hello,
what is the best way to shift 200r4 when racing on track and on street.

put in drive bring boost up and go or start in 1, 2 or what. Thanks in advance

I know this seems like a dumb question. I just want to know the proper way

ive never been to the track but on the street i just leave it in drive and let the trans decide when it wants to change gears, has worked for me so far. but play around with it and see what works best for you. do you have a stock or aftermarket shifter ?

i've always just put it in drive, but I think I recall Dave Husek with turbo buick performance saying once upon a time to put in 2 and let trans shift from one to 2 and then manually shift to 3rd.

Humm. First time I've heard of that but I'm far from an expert. When I had my hurst shifter on my camaro I used to play around with the shifts, prob did me more bad than good but on the GN it just seems like the trams shifts right on its own. Gonna try it the way u just mentioned next time I take her out, I mostly just leave it alone so I don't miss shift

I think that's the recommended way for doing a Burnout to prevent Trans damage. Most just use D at the Track unless they need more rpm. I don't think anyone recommends Street racing either.

i think the reason for manually shifting is because there is greater line pressure than when in drive. The 1-2 shift is hard to make on your own since it happens so quick, especially without a ratchet style shifter.

that's probably the reason for starting in 2.
I tried it and the car felt faster by seat of pants. I haven't tried it at the track.

Although you have it in 2 it still starts in first then shift to 2nd then you have to shift to third or it will stay in second.

PS. ya'll don't get mad at me if you try this and your transmission goes out. I was just asking a question.

i know of a few people that do it for this ^^^ reason.

ALSO
if you have a low RPM shifting trans like mines (great for a DD) you can get the higher RPM you need/want at the TRACK by shifting it your self.
