Okay, last Nov with a stock car and 225/60 radial tires on the rear I managed a 2.02 best 60 ft.

This Friday night with more mods, dyno numbers of 280hp and 420 torque at the wheels and BFG 275/50s at 20psi I could only manage a best of 2.01 !

Wow, my dragradials improved my 60 ft by .01!

So, I need tips obviously. Track conditions were not great, but I should have still seen below 2 sec IMO. I could hold 4-5 lbs at the line but the tires broke when I stabbed the gas and lifted the brake. When I launched with 3 lbs the car hooked, but started to spin less than 60 ft out of the gate. I had far worse 60fts that night, but 2.01 was my best. I got a feeling I'm either spinning the tires too much or not enough before the race, or I need to go even lower PSI. Help!

James

try lowering the tire pressure. Drop a few pounds until they bite. Mine like 12psi

I have taken mine down to 15 #s, but I'll bet the track was not well treated. Did others seem to have a problem with traction as well?

That seems awfully low. What does BFG recommend for the lowest air pressure?

Yes, others were having problems as well.

Thanks,

James

I agree, 12 psi seems low but you will be amazed at the difference it makes. What's it going to hurt??? They will feel like slicks compared to the numbers you're putting down now. You should be able to peel 3 tenths, maybe 4 off your ET by traction alone (which those tires should provide)

I've taken mine down to 13 lbs with no problems. Also, if you are using a stock 7" rim, you need to lower the pressure just to get the correct contact patch. On a wider rim, you may be able to get away with a little higher pressure.

traction

did you do any chasis adjustments as far as getting some adjustable upper control arms lower control arms anit hop bars I well help you **** loads and if they doesn't help engough you can always throw a bag or two of concrete or something to help put the rubber to the cement a little better there are a few tricks you can try i hope it helps.

My first time out with the Mickey's I was pulling 2.2x at NED on a CRAP track prep. I thought the tires were crappy and I was spinning them. Turns out I just wasn't launching hard enough. Leaving at 6-7psi I was getting 1.88s with just under 20psi in them. I'd say try a little bit less pressure, and WARM THEM UP proper before the run, haha. It's fun AND helpful.
Just found out I'm hitting the local 1/8th with a friend tonight. I'm hoping to cut some 1.7s and 8.0x. I'm SURE I'll share my results with the crew, I'm psyched to go.

Bishir...I know what your feeling. Last year I had a basically stock motor with the exception of a turbo, 3in DP and exhaust and injectors. I went 1.75 in 60ft of BFGs. Over the winter I rebuilt the motor and basically put together a mid 11sec combo. On my first outing to the track the best I could get was a 1.95 60 ft. I was pretty pissed.
After speaking to a few guys on here, I tried a few different things. I took the car out one night and must have made ten different launches with diff. adjustments. My car seemed to like it best with about 16psi of air in the BFGs and only about 5 psi of air in the right side air bag. I was having a serious spinning problem but I finally found what worked.
One thing I can tell you about the BFG DRs. Alot of people first told me that a big burnout was not neccessary. I think it is. Because my car don`t hook at all unless I do a monster burnout. The tires need heat and need to be sticky.
I will tell you the same thing that everyone else on here told me. Try one change at a time. And test, test, and test somemore. Every car reacts different. The key is to find what your car likes best. And drag radials need to be really clean to work.
Thanks to some of the advice I`ve found on here from some guys with real world street cars, I`m finally getting my car to hook. Do a search on here, you will also find more.

Good Advice, Thanks!

I had just expected much better b/c I ran that 60ft with stock tires! I wonder how much difference temperature actually makes... I mean, I ran an unmodified 8.6 in Nov.. and a modified 8.6 in July. Does that mean I should be low 8s this Nov? Sounds like I should..

Ive run 1.70 on regular BFG TAs 275/50/15 with VHT traction compund on them . With 255/? / 16s on GTA rims i went 1.80s . However i had Precisions convertor in the car then , i think that has a big diff on the 60 foots because last years on DRs my 60 foots sucked .

Hey James, I sent you this link in a email, but not sure it you got it. Here's a technique I use for launch on the BFG DRs. I've only ran some 235s a few times, but just bought some 275/60s to try out.
Launch Technique for BFG DRs
