I just got my BFG d/r's delivered today and noticed the tread pattern seems to be unidirectional. Did I receive two left side or two right side tires? See attached pic. The tires in the pic were arranged so that the sidewall that says "Mount This Side In" are both facing inward as they would be mounted on the rear axle. This is my first set of d/r's so I'm saying WTF?

looks right from what I remember, been a long time since I've run the BFG's.

"Looks right" as in looks light right side tires? Just kidding. Just seems odd that the tread pattern would be reversed on one tire. Anybody else?

Those are not drag Radials. I have the BFG's and they have a large flat spot in the center (and yes its there when they are new)

those dont look like drag radials these in the picture on the right have no tread in center btw they dont make these anymore. send them back and get mickey thompsons you will be more happy

lpaulabbott,

I found that same picture online. However, the one's I just bought are indeed drag radials. Hell, they even say drag radial on the side wall. Look here:

BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial 2

and here

BFGoodrich Tires | g-Force T/A® Drag Radial Details

However, when you click "Size and Specs" from the page in the above link, the pic in the .PDF file that comes up appears to show the tread pattern that's on my tires.

i guess you got the new tread pattern

Hmmm...I guess this is the third revision in tread design. Back to the original question. Obviously the tread pattern is asymmetrical but is it unidirectional? Where's my vodka?

.....

What size are they? The 235/60/15 do not have the "slick" area in the middle like the 275/50.

They are the 235/60/15's. O.k. makes sense if indeed the larger/wider tires have a different tread (i.e.-the ones with the flat section in the middle)

Nittos

Nittos are by far the best. That is what I run on my Lightning. However, I did not think they were available in the 15 in. rim.

Thanks fellas

I plan on going with the Nitto's, primarly due to the longer tread life of the Nitto's but they they don't make a proper size for the stock 7" GN rim, so I'm going with the proper 235/60 BFGs until I can pony up for stock refurbished rims from Brian at gbodyparts...which should be in just a couple of months. Thus, I'm not too concerned about the terrible wear characteristics of the BFGs as they only need to last a short while. Thanks for the help guys. I think the general consensus--taking into consideration the same thread I have on the other boards--is that I have the proper setup. In any event, I done gots me some learnin' concerning tire terminology (i.e.-asymmetrical tread vs. directional asymetrical tires, etc.)

That's the same size I'm running and mine look identical. Tread pattern is fine - it doesn't matter. As for being discontinued, I don't think so. I purchased mine from Summit just a few months ago. I believe the other, weird looking tread pattern is for larger wheel sizes (17", 18"). As for replacing them with another brand, this is what I've *heard*:

Nittos - good traction, last longest of the DR's
BFG's - better traction, don't last as long as Nittos
MT's - best traction, shortest life (softest compound).

I'm on my third set of BFG's. I like 'em.

Just mount 'em, and drive the snot out of 'em!!

Mickey Thompson makes a 235/60/15 and a 255/60/15. :)

Yeah, would've bought the MT's but I'm on a budget and the BFGs were a tad cheaper. Hell, I don't even have alky yet[/I, so I doubt I will peel the rubber off the BFGs as quick as I'd like to :D . The BFGs are simply an interim tire of sorts.

at7we2,

I agree, that seems to be the general rule on the DR's from what I've read.

really? I would think Nittos would be the stickiest in the world! I know that when I compared my Nitto tires(non DR's) to compareable tires from other brands, the nittos felt like melted tar after a short burn opposed to the others just feeling like warm tires...now when they are cold, I would certianly agree - I think my GN's BFG T/A offer more cold grip than my nittos did on the Mustang before heating them up.
