I know this is probably a dumb question for you guys but i heard that i couldnt use an art carr 2004r because it doesent have a BFR valve. What the hell is that and why does it make the other 2004r unuseable???

The code is BRF, not BFR. It refers to the tag on the transmission and the code on the cast iron valve body which is inside the pan on the bottom of the trans, and is the "brain" of the whole trans. A BRF trans is an authentic GN transmission.
A BRF trans is identical to other 200-4rs except for the valve body, the 1-2 servo, and the governor. The valve body is calibrated to provide firmer shifts, the 1-2 servo (that big round aluminum thing on the side of the case) has a larger surface area and provides a firmer shift. the governor, which controls shift rpm, has lighter weights and makes the trans shift at about 5100 rpm.
There are a few other minor differences but that is the majority of it. A non brf trans is not "unuseable", but you would not be happy with the shift quality. I think it can be improved with a shift kit, but is still not the equal of the real thing. By the way, BRF valve bodies are pretty rare nowadays, unless you know who to call. Hope this helps.

FYI--Art Carr's new company is called California Performance Transmission Company and can by reached at 714-901-3777. Give us a call and we'll be happy to answer any questions that you have.
