I know every setup is different. I have been running a 44 for years and finally upped it to a PT61 and also installed a WBO2 setup. Love the turbo, and the car feels much quicker. I used to keep the blue knob right around 5-5.5 on the alky control kit and PTE44. This was usually just above tickling the knock detector. I turned it up slightly to be safe with the new turbo and began tuning. The first thing it does is pop when i really get into it. 9:1 AF is showing. I turn the alky down and have now turned it down to around 4 on my controller and it is usually around 10.8:1. Any more and the car noses over a tad. Was my 44 at 25 psi putting out so much heat that it needed the extra alky to keep from knocking? Thats the only explanation as to why a turbo putting out more air at the same boost would require less alky that i can think of. Again I know all cars are different, but for what the car should be running doesn't setting the blue knob at 4 seem a little low for a potential 11.00 car? A few of my local friends have had to upgrade to dual nozzles at this point with similar setups.

Typically you should play with fueling not alky to achieve your air fuel results. Lowering the amount of alcohol is equivalent to lowering the octane available to the engine. So be very cautious when reducing volume.

When you changed turbos.. you essentially needed to retune the car. And it sounds like you did your tuning with the alky.. Now as to what settings.. for what ET.. every motor is different, and the threshold of knock is also different. Outside temps also play a role. Just do this type of tunig at a track where you can document results.. if it were my car... i'd have the alky knob on 5-6 at least.. then tune out the fuel. As I rather have more than less.. and the decision to use less should be done when your collecting data. On the street guessing.. its too easy to make a mistake due to distractions. And we're all one distraction away from hurting the motor.

Good luck

Thanks Julio, I got the car figured out now. This is embarrassing to admit but.... Don't neglect the simple things is all the advice i have to anybody that reads this. Recently when the car was running it was more of a turn key daily driver that I put a lot of miles on. Lets just say its been a few miles since i have changed the plugs because of this. Ive pulled them a couple time to look at mixture and all looked fantastic but I didn't check the gap because it looked "ok" from just a glance. After pulling them most were around .045-.055 and the spark had been blowing out with the new PT61 flowing so much more air compared to my 44 (same plugs were fine with the 44 at 26 psi) Anyways the car pulls like mad and runs quite a bit smoother in the upper rpms now. Ive got the alky on 5-5.5 with 26 psi and and a/f ratio around 10.8:1 right now. Im gonna leave it until I get my scan tools back and get the WBO2 setup ready to record on the laptop. Then its too the track I go in search of some 11.00s and a 120 mph trap speed.

There is nothing embarassing.

Well :D

I had an old timer garaje mechanic one time tell me.. you know.. "I have fixed more carburator problems changing plugs then changing carburators".. That statement has always stuck to me.

Wanna see someone who loves changing plugs.. Ed Brewer.. he's the guy that ran 11.3 on a stock turbo.. pump gas and alky.

Its all in the details

Good Luck
