Im looking for ideas on selecting a new Turbo for my new Motor. I wont bore you with the details about the motor its BUILT! Im looking to run high/mids 10's on moderate boost, 22-25 lbs low timing 18-20 on alchy. I was lookin at the PT-67 GTQ and kinda had my mind set on that but I was wondering what other options there might be. My car is 98% street driven. I was thinking a 3500-3800 stall. What would you guys recomend? I would like to hear from those that actuallu have 10 second cars that are street driven and how they like it. Spool etc
 
I don't have a 10 second car, but Russ Merritt on the board could probably help you. He has a 70bb q trim turbo.
 
Well, if you insist on low boost, a PT67 is the minimum you should be looking at. A 70mm compressor wheel is probably where you want to be. Guy here in Richmond runs an easy 10.40 @19psi with a Stage I motor, and a 74 turbo. So think about that for what ever it's worth. I ran 11.1 with a TE61 on a stock motor, but at big boost. Maybe a 70 P-trim to keep it spooling somewhat fast for the street. ??
 
I have a 70GTQ and I drive mine everyday just about with no problems at all. I would recommend something around this size to run 10's at that boost. I am running a 3500 stall. Alot of this will depend on your heads and other parts that you are running.
 
With that Q-trim, would you recommend a small (.63) or a bigger turbine housing. I'm guessing a smaller for those not interested in high boost, or the TSM class, right?

If you intend to drive the car on the street 98% as posted, there would be no downside IMHO to using a TE-45a (P trim/.63PTE) with a 3,400 stall. I have to run alot of boost to get a 10 out of mine, but if you have a built motor you wouldn't need as much.
I have a PTS 9X11 3,400 stall and the turbo spools plenty fast for me. Having said that, I plan to have a "built" motor soon and will probably go with a GTQ71 to stay legal and competitive in TSM. Good Luck!
 
Ya but those smaller housings choke a big turbo, honestly there isnt much of a difference in the .63 and the .85 housings as far as driveability is concerned, atleast I couldnt tell anyway. Only thing is that it takes a second longer to spool up. It also adds about 20+hp on the top end. I have found that with the extender extreme set up you can fine tune everything to a T. ME-R is the same way, but I have no experience with that system so I cant tell you anything about it. :)
 
The BB70Q from T-netics I run has an .82 housing. Last year I ran my street car with a 3200 stall Vigilante n/l and while the MPH was pretty good it coulda used 3500 stall to launch better. On the street it was fine and drove nice. I have a 3500 stall comin with Bruce's mega tranny (everything but the brake) and we'll see what she does this year..............I gotta becareful, the car goes mid tens without a bar or seatbelts so my track time with it is limited and probably should be. The car is very predictable though and is everything I wanted it to be. She's getting a real Racegate and new DP tomorrow and then I'm going back to the dyno as last time I found out it was runnin too rich (one click down on the chip picked up 12HP) and my time had expired. I can't wait to get back and have it for half a day or so. Gonna try a differant chip form Steve Y and a few other things.........
