Well if they cant get your money by forcing you to buy a new(er) car then they get it this way.
I just paid over $300 to register a 20yo car and the last smog check was within 90 days so I saved $50.

BTW a lot of those email addys are blocked by the politician. I google his name, find contact us, and use his office address for my address.

In that case, shouldn't you just reach out and touch him?
It is my understanding that it didn't fail to pass last year or the year before, that it passed the lower floor, but they ran out of time to present to the Senate. Not good, as if that's the case, it will probably pass this year. We're screwed.

I dont remember how far it got the first year.
The 2nd year he introduced a bill about divorce court proceedings, got it thru all phases and just before final approval gutted the divorce part and inserted the smog check bill.
Some very alert watchdogs caught it and we got it shot down again.
IMO he should have been kicked out trying to sneak a bill into law like that, he was even lying to his fellow legislators. Gotta love the ethics of the people we elect.
This is his 3rd try, and unfortunately he will keep trying until its passed, so every year prepare to send letters/emails against the bill.

This bill is up for a committee hearing on Mon APr 13.

Contact the committee members now.

Remember, a lot of them reject email from outside their district so use their home office address when emailing to them. And most make it hard by requiring you go to their website and use their contact us email.

I also recommend going to this site and finding out who your reps are. Then emailing them too.

This is what I sent them.

Dear Assemblymembers,

I am an auto enthusiast that believes this bill to be a blatant attack on the vintage car enthusiast. There is minimal affect on the environment by these few and seldom driven collector cars. I don’t understand why there is this move to keep pushing this matter year after year. I would be very interested in knowing what the primary goal is of this bill and would very much like to examine any data that supports the necessity of this bill.

These old cars support businesses that cater to their owners. There are many people that enjoy their job working on these fine cars. Don’t take that away from them.

Vote no on bill A.B.859!

Dear Assemblymembers,

I am an extream, avid auto enthusiast that believes this bill to be bullcaca, kaka, caca...you get the point as I don't speak spanish and is blatant attack on diehard vintage car enthusiast. There is minimal to no affect on the environment by these few and very seldom driven collector cars known as Turbo Buicks, the hell with all the rest. I due however understand why there is this move to keep pushing this matter year after year. It's because your a bunch of tree hugging yuppies that have nothing else to due except make hard working CA citizens pay for your deficit. It not like everything will be dead in the next hundred years anyhow, I just don't get it. Besides this, I'd be very interested in knowing what the primary goal of this bill is? I also would very much like to examine any data that supports the necessity of this bill and shove it up you know what. Because, you know GW Bush would say the same thing...

FYI - These old cars support businesses that cater to their owners. Ummmhummm, that's right...their owners. For you information, there are many people that enjoy their job working on these fine cars. Don’t take that away from them. If you got any ballz at all, stand up for one and tell these mofo's to back off.

Vote no TODAY on bill A.B.859!

I got you in my scope, so go ahead, make my day you tree hugging yuppie!

On a real note, due I really want to move back to CA:wink:

Hmmm. I hope you didn't really send that. Surely that would hurt their sensitive feelings and would probably work against us. You should try to send a note that gets the message across without provoking them. OK?

Of course not Don, anyone who knows me up close and personal, know I like joking around. Beside, it I had sent it, I'd just use Gary's, Lee's, Robert's or Ray's name:wink:

On a real note: I also would like to put something together and send it to them. Question is....Do I need to be a resident of CA to do it?

Ray

On another real note: No, Ray, you need not be a resident of the Republik of Kali to send them something. A shoebox of C4 with a remote igniter switch should do the trick nicely. Don't forget the batteries.
As Don suggested, enclose a nice note with the words please and thank you for everything they've done for us.

C4- Only if it were that simple....:) I'll draft up something nice and send to them. Sure hope more folks will do the same to get the point across.

I received a letter from my assemblyman thanking me for the email I sent him, and let me know he plans to vote no on the bill, 'as it is written'. Does this mean that if a word is changed in the bill he may consider voting yes?

Or a comma, or a period, or maybe an asterisk.
