How fast, or at what point, would it be necessary to go to a billet forward drum in one of our 200-4rs?

Anytime is a good time with a rebuild

Why not be sure? Why not save some time and money later by doing it with a rebuild? If you are thinking of just tearing it down to add, I might think twice till I had a problem. IF you have the trans apart or are freshening, then I would do it now to prevent issues later.
Sounds logical, eh?
That is what I would suggest anyway.
I also would suggest reading, "Strengthening The 2004r"

Again, just MY opinion.
Good luck

in my opinion all units should have aa billet forward drum .if you want to better understand the unit as well as know what is needed when pick up a copy of our 200 page 2004r transmission manual.it covers everything.there is no other single source of more information.email me if your interested.

I initially pulled the trans for a rebuild so it is already out. But I also pulled my oil pan and found a piece of #2 piston skirt in the bottom. So instead of just doing the trans I'm going through the motor as well so, as you can imagine, it's been a little pricier than I had planned. I wasn't going to get the billet drum unless it was really necessary. But like you guys said, since it's already out, why not? I'll just have to sit tight and save up a few more dollars. Thanks for the input..

You are definitly a candidate

This is the product you want. The quality and durability is there. Best on market, bar none! Ask someone using our products. They will tell you an unbiased opinion.
