Wondering if you guys could help me here...I want to replace just the black plastic seat reclining handle on the driver's side seat because the old handle is in not too good of shape. I have another seat with a perfect plastic handle (Just want to use the plastic portion that goes over the metal handle) I see a spring in there under a lot of tension and a small hole for this spring on the handle. Is this difficult to do? Is there any method you guys have tried to just replace the plastic part? Can anyone steer me to the proper procedure of removing the plastic part for replacement? I know I can do it, but I also know that someone here always has a better way, and that way I'd like to know. Thanks, fellas.

I believe that whoel assembly is riveted together you may have to get a whole other one

I checked the seat tracks we have and they appear to be pressed or molded on the lever, I dont think they can be replaced (easily:rolleyes:)

Knock the old plastic unit off from behind. Then push on the new. Small piece of pine would be ok for knocking off the one you want to keep.
Or just spend the $5.00 & get a new GM one?

This is for the manual adjuster knob.
Now if you want to do the recliner handle.

there is a plastic push pin on the cloth side you need to remove in order to pull that handle out.

Brian, you were exactly right! I wanted to remove the black plastic recliner handle on my late Dad's driver's seat and put it on a better condition dirver's seat I obtained. Thought about what you said here, went out to the garage, looked for that plastic pin, used a plastic trim removal tool from Harbor Freight as to not to damage the seat material, removed the pin (it's black, about 1/2" long) and the handle slipped right off! If you hadn't told me how to do this, I might have torn it up. Man, you made my day. So glad you're here on this board to help others. So, thank you, Brian, you helped me tremendously! To the others here, including my ol buddy DD, thank you for the help also. Great group of guys here, always willing to help. It pays to ask questions if in doubt...nothing beats talking with an individual who has done it himself. Hope this post helps others, too. Again, thanks, Brian. YOU DA MAN!!!!!:p
