Blow Off Valve on HOT AIR !!!!!

My friend has an MR2 Turbo and he just installed a blow off valve. I love the way it sound & it's pretty quick too. Wooooosh, Wooooosh, Woooosh !!!!!

Why exactly can't we hot air owners not have one of these ? What can help us get that nice sound if we are unable to install one. What Modifications I mean... Thanks.

You can't run a BOV on a hotair unless you throw an intercooler on it and relocate the throttlebody. If you don't do these two things, there's no compressed air to blow off. My car makes a huge sneeze even at a couple psi.

if you have open exhaust you get a 'blowoff' sound but its a ltitle different

my car makes the opposite of a 'sneeze' every time i get on it and let off, sounds way better than a dumb blowoff valve

Speaking of BOV's. I got one from ATR and it has no directions. It has two ports on it. How does it hook up?

One has to go to manifold pressure. My dad's hks unit only has one port. The other is either atmosphere or it goes before the TB. Sorry this doesn't help much.

haha why would that be? dude you have no clue..

when the throttle blade shuts, the turbo goes into vacuum, its just as bad on the turbo as IDLING THE CAR.

maybe next time you should consult the team before assuming you know everything

my bad if i was wrong. we had the 87s motor built and whenever we let off we would get a "reverse sneeze" we asked our engine builder and he set it was our bearing being ground into powder. no need to take offense to anything i say tho just chill

You're right, on the 86-87 it's not the best thing to let off the gas quickly during a full boost run. On the hotair cars, the throttlebody is before the turbo instead of after it. There's not the surge of pressurized air trying to push the wrong way through the turbo and putting a load on the thrust bearing in the process. The car just goes into vacuum although a very high vacuum for a second. I've heard it can hurt seals on the hotair cars over time. That sound through the exhaust is nothing more than the turbo spooling down quickly. A BOV sounds much better.

It does sort of pertain to hotairs. Don't feel bad, I went the first year or two thinking the same thing. Now that I've moved the throttlebody and intercooled it, it really pertains to my "hotair".

well im going to run my wastegate open atmosphere so i will make a ton of noise when building boost =) but no crazy whistles for me yet im going to finsih what im workin on and try to put together a kit for the powerstroke ic when im ready so it may take a while
