Boost control solenoid ?

What is the main purpose of the boost control solenoid ? Is that the little piece above the passenger side valve cover that has a connector to it ? On my car it is there but has no vacuum lines going to it. Can I delete it ? I have an external wastegate and a manual boost controller , I am also now running a fast xfi . Will there be any effects on disconnecting the harness and removing it. Thanks

On a stock style waste gate the solinoid was a PWM bleed valve used to control boost. If it gets unplugged electrically with a stock ECM it will set a code and turn on the Check engine light. Since you are running an xfi you can get rid of it. Don't throw it away-I think they are going for good money as they are no longer available.
