Where should I tap into for my boost gauge?

Mine is currently tapped into the vac line that connects the heater controls and the cruise. Neither work, so I assume the boost gauge is stealing the vaccum from them.

I was thinking possibly the line to the charcoal canister????

I drilled a hole and tapped my upper intake plentum. Then used teflon tape on threads ,this is my 2nd TR I've done this to(on Passenger side so as not to interfere with cables).

I've got mine hooked up on the vacuum/boost lines on the passenger side of the intake, back by the firewall. There is a metal line that goes into a flex line....a couple of pcs of hose and a tee.

Another option is to find the MAP sensor on the passenger side....it's a small square gizmo under the "rain gutter" with wires and a vacuum line coming out of it. (all it really does is run your dash LED boost gauge) Cut the hard plastic line going to the map...couple of pcs of hose and a tee.

A lot of the vacuum lines under the hood have a small check valve in them...little white and black gizmos...these are to prevent pressure from going inside the devices when the engine is under boost. (blowing, not sucking)
They keep things like the cruise control diaphragm from blowing out when the turbo is in boost.

Good Luck,
John

If it hasn't been removed there is a diagram of the vaccum line routes on the firewall passenger side. I have mine running directly to the steel lines going to the vaccum block. I didn't care for the idiot lights, still wondering what was the point.

I personally did mine tapped into the same line as is going to my fuel pressure regulator. I feel this is a good area to get good readings with out modifying the intake.

I did tap mine into the charcoal canister line and have done so on a few friend's cars too without any problems. You just have to make sure to tap into the right side of the check valve or the guage won't work. I don't remember which side for sure but logically it should be anywhere between the check valve and the engine as opposed to the check valve and the canister.

I was about to post the same question today.

My guage is going to be hood-mounted. Naturally, I'd prefer not to have vac lines running all over the bay. Therefore, if I tapped into the MAP sensor line, am I correct in assuming that the dash LED would no longer work? I would prefer that it always work. Not that I would rely on it, just would rather have it working.

I "T"'d into the same line as it runs back by the firewall. You can't even see it unless you're digging. Dash gauge still works. It's still wrong, but it works.
