boost not holding??

Hey I have a .85 exhaust housing with an HD Internal wastegate, when i turned the boost down to quite a bit less then 17 lbs, then when i step on it to make boost it still reads like 20 lbs of boost making and the adjustable rod is alot of the way out. Would anyone know why the boost is creeping, also i have looked and no vaccum leaks and on my boost/vac guage it reads around 18 vac. would anyone have an idea what it could be??

if your desired boost was 17lbs boost than why try to use a HD wategate actuator . the HD actuator is good for 20lbs and up . they arent designed for lower boost levels . if you plan to run at 18 you will have trouble

most likely youve let off so much tension that the wastegate puck (in the down pipe or elbow if thats what you are using) ) isnt even seating

with a boost contoller like RJC has you can get a stock wastgate actuator to go from around 12lbs up to around 26lbs

so the best bet im guessing is just to get a regular wastegate and get rid of this one, is that what your kinda saying, not offended just clariffying,

yes thats what im sayin'
you can decide what you need but i think the HD is wrong for you (the HD designation is kind of misleading as you would think it would just be a better heavier duty unit ).
i run alky at over 23# so the need to run below 18lbs boost off track isnt there but i still use a stock actuator
if you run race gas in your tank all the time you could leave the boost high all the time .when you get to the track if your setup is made to do it you could run 30# on race gas and then the HD would be ok .

if you run 93 most of the time the hd wont let you controll boost well if you plan to go wot at under 20lbs.

You'll want to use this high pressure adjustable wastegate actuator if you are building a performance engine for a 1986 or 1987 Turbo Regal.

This wastegate actuator is designed to handle boost levels above 21 psi. Normal applications do not require this high pressure adjustable wastegate actuator.

The general rule of thumb... Use the "stock" actuator when the desired boost is 14-20 psi. Use the "high pressure" actuator when the desired boost is about 21 psi. One thing to keep in mind when you use a stock actuator is that the shorter the rod (higher boost) the less the wastegate valve will open. If you make the rod too short, you may experience "boost creep" in high gears.

This high pressure adjustable wastegate actuator is an excellent way to fine tune a modified engine and adjust the boost levels to your application. [

Alright Thanks for all your help you given me, Monday i will just be ordering a new actuator.
