IMO if you have a TT chip and its burned for 22 PSI and u crank up the boost to your psi in question it can be done. But, the chip will require some fuel and timing to be altered to perfrom correctly.

you can but do you really think that is safe. i have run 28 on 91 and alky

Yes...

can u run 26 psi with alky on pump gas?

I ran 93 octane from Shell or BP and alky all last year on full kill at 27# of boost. I squeezed the headgasket about half way thru the year due to an issue in my Big Stuff 3, but continued to drive it and race till the end of the year. This year will be more of the same but with a reliable F.A.S.T.

Ive run 25~26psi without problem. Ive also seen 29psi without too much detonation. 93 pump and alchy. I ran some 104 in the tank, only because the car got 87 instead of 93:eek:, when I went 11.98 last Saturday. Still stock turbo. I turned the timing up some in the TT chip as well. Still a little rich.

As far as I know, my HGs are original. But I cant be absolutely certian.

If you don't have detonation, does it matter how much boost you run with the stock hg?

Those stockers can take some abuse.. problem is abuse over extended periods of time. Figure the motor is now 20+ years old.. its amazing it is still running :D

I have seen stock headgaskets go to 34 PSI and not blow. Same engine over time.. there will come a day at 23 POOOOOF.. it goes.

Straw that breaks the camels back.. ;)

Razor--I fully agree with you re: the stock hg. I had to open my original, unopened motor at 49,000 miles (water pump/piston problem) and I was amazed that the stock hg's looked like new. This amazed me because the engine had seen some abusive boost back when I first bought it with 6,000 miles on it and I didn't have a knock gauge at the time. Once I even had the alcohol hose come off the pump (earlier SMC kit) at the track while running 25# boost. I got out of it (had kr gauge then) but Turbolink recorded 28* kr. I thought I would have blown a hg, but I didn't. My point is, the stock hg can take a beating and survive.

can u run 26 psi with alky on pump gas?

i was around 24-25 regularly i have played around with 27psi only a couple of times, I got too scared & addictive i turned it back down.

i ran on a back road against a nova that was sat up for spray ( but said he didnt need a bottle to whip NO V6! ) with a 454 bored to a (502ci)cammed, shorty exhaust, et streets one night before i bought the alky kit.... i was at 19 to 19.5 max. & i got the lead early & stayed ahead about a car length & a 1/2 all the way up to the finish line he caught back up to my front tire & stayed there so i won by a fender. with the combo listed below.

You could hear a pin drop when my brother went back up to collect his money, (I dont gamble  .)

This was with the street chip, someone told me to put the race chip in & let him spray, this has been a long fued (but friendly) every since then my motor had to be rebuilt its almost done.
I really wouldve like to have known what that 27 psi wouldve felt like on the back road that night with him spraying though i'd most likely have traction issues as for that night i left the line perfect at -5 psi of boost & no spin. I went to go practice with the boost up & tried that same -5psi launch to no avail i cant take off like that again for nothing.
theres a definate possibility when my new combo is finished that he will get the chance to win his money back ( A little birdy told me that he said he's gonna spray from the hole to the finish line, Im gonna tell him HE SHOULD,VE DONE THAT THE FIRST TIME. lettin a little ole v6 spank a big block )he'll probably beat me this time(he has a 496 block in now, gears, tubbed his rear) as he was suppose to beat me the last time ,but this time I will tune to the best of my small ability and this time I WILL HAVE ALKY!!!! just to keep it close:wink:

About the time I get the trans back together I'll find out that around 35k and a lifetime of running 20+ psi it'll be just the right time to blow 'em out. I've been running 20+ and some since around 1991. I always tried to run octane booster or 100+ unleaded and sometimes I'd sacrifice an o2 and run 116 no lead and run it up to 23psi. Had no scanmaster till later, so it's probably had some knock . Got alcy in 2004. I've unknowingly ran the car with a dead alcy pump up to 23 psi a few times. Still un-opened motor since got it new, but my time is coming...was running 25psi (no knock, feeling great) on alcy when the tranny folded like paper a few weeks ago.:frown:

Oh woops, got off of topic, but yes, I think you can run 26psi on pump gas and alcy if tune was very sweet. Till somthin goes boom, but that goes with having fun.

The stock HG's that have never been off the car "almost welded on" can take some serious abuse but if you blow one and replace them with the same new stock HG's they blow at 25psi.

thanks for all the replies... right now i have original hg with only 84,000 miles on motor my curent setup is 3in thdp, atr 2.5in cross over pipe, walbro fuel pump, hot wire kit, 009 inj., afpr, rjc power plate, big mouth cold air filter.

i want to buy an alky kit once i get my car to pass smog(still having issues, but i think i found the problem).

im going to order the rjc hg kit they have and some lt1 springs and some ss valves and arp fastners since i have to take heads off. so i think its possible?
