Hi Guys!

Just got the shift kit and pressure reg kit for my 200R4, and have a few questions that need clearing up:
  • Is there somewhere I can D'L a "cleaner" copy of the valve body picture? Pic looks like it's a copy of a copy of a copy...
  • You say "total of 7 check balls", but diagrams show 6 in case and 2 in valve body?
  • I'm ASSuming "C" & "D" springs REPLACE the originals springs and do not install WITH originals?
  • The 1-2 accumulator spring looks STOUT, do I need anything special to install it?
  • Included were 2 small (1"square) pieces of cardboard - are they "feeler guages" of some type or just packing waste?
  • On the pressure regulator: my ATSG manual shows #1 - #7 as TV parts and #8 - #12 as TCC parts. Since they weren't included, I'm ASSuming the TCC parts don't need to be removed?

I've also noticed that I can "wiggle" the front U-Joint up and down ~ 1/4" or so (seems excessive to me), but I'm getting no vibrations from it at speed. What's normal here?

TIA!

if you have an ATSG manual there is an exploded veiw at the end of the book.
  • You say "total of 7 check balls", but diagrams show 6 in case and 2 in valve body?

55K the one marked (leave alone!) is in a capsule and is not counted as one.
  • I'm ASSuming "C" & "D" springs REPLACE the originals springs and do not install WITH originals?

    Correct.
  • The 1-2 accumulator spring looks STOUT, do I need anything special to install it?

    Nope.
  • Included were 2 small (1"square) pieces of cardboard - are they "feeler guages" of some type or just packing waste?

    just packing waste.

correct just part of the diagram used for referance.

1/4 with yoke on would be alot?!

TIA!

Hope this helps. :D

Thanks for the answers, Mark! I *may* have exaggerated a little on the 1/4" measurement - it seemed excessive at the time, but was prolly less (but still quite noticeable).

If it's not leaking it's something you'll have to live with 'til ya pull the trannie, no way to replace rear bushing while it's assembled.  :D

Won't be a problem (I hope!)... One more Q - do I still set the TV cable "normally" as per factory specs?

yep, but you'll prolly find you have to take a click or two out of it from there, depending to how you like it to shift.

DOH! One more Q (promise!)

Can I substitute Vaseline or Silicone grease for "Transgel" or should I make a trip to the tranny shop and get the Transgel? I'll be getting a "red shower" Saturday for sure!

Later,

Driveshaft yoke loose in bushing?

Have you removed your driveshaft to see if the yoke is worn?
I've seen old ATRA bulletins that say it can be caused by a loose
or missing engine-to-body grounding strap.:( There are tools to remove the tailhousing bushing while the tranny is assembled, but at $133.00, not many guys have them. You can see one at
www.atec-trans-tool.com. The part # is T-0160-A. I got the price from www.express-tool.com. I use a plastic kitty litter pan to
drain oil. It works great. I like Wal-mart's Equate brand of
petroleum jelly because it is thicker than the name brand.:)

Thanks, Mark!

Nordbert, the yoke looks fine, but I haven't miked it or anything. I guess that ATRA bulletin must be alluding to metal erosion by the engine grounding through the driveshaft yoke? Oh, and thanks for the links!

Uh oh! :(

Does this mean that, no checkball is inserted in that position??

What would happen if I did install a chack ball there?

I assumed "leave it alone" meant there was a check ball there. When I didn't see one, I also assumed it fell out.

No you won't see one there and it can't fall out it is incased in a capsule, that's why your told to leave it alone. :D

F-!

Now what would happen if I stuck a check ball in there?
