OK I screwed the pooch slightly. When I first got the HA GN the hood liner had been gotten into by wildlife. To prevent pieces from falling apart over the turbo/engine while driving it trimmed the crumbling area and removed the cowl seal for more airflow...

2 days ago I put repro 3.8 emblems on the hood and the uninsulated turbo heat melted them ... dammit. (See attached)

I can't really justify a ton of money for a oem hood liner replacement right now. I was thinking of going to the junk yard and getting a relatively flat one trimming and positioning it behind the existing inner 4 pins. Or maybe cutting and tucking it up into the hood frame maybe?

Any ideas? I don't care about looks at this point, just need functionality right now. Thanks

Greg

Well, first I have to say LOL! Sorry about that.:D I'd say just remove them for now. If Coach hadn't left the board you could save up and get his stainless replacements and never have to worry about this again. Since he's no longer with us, then leave the emblems off and start searching for some. You may find a deal, and if not, you can save up until you can afford the right ones.(y) In the mean time, put some sort of shield on the hood so you don't burn up the paint on the hood.;)

It is kinda funny, I too laughed when I saw the letters all droopy. The emblems are replaceable and the car is not show quality so no biggy. The paint on the hood however ... gotta save that.

the hoodliner in my 84 T Type looks just like a regular Regal part. as far as i can tell, it's original to the car. it did get a little chewed up by sagging into the wastegate arm, so i just made a bigger heat shield out of aluminum that i screwed to the stock heat shield to hold it up.

also, removing the cowl seal might help with cooling at low speeds, but once the car is going 20mph or so the high pressure air at the base of the windshield will be fighting the air coming thru the radiator and might actually cause the car to run hotter as a result, and it also creates extra drag and front end lift at speed due to the extra air under the hood.

Thanks for the input novaderrik, didn't think much about the cowl vacuum.
