I had fun ...but I always do at the races. Too bad for all the broken cars and wrecks!! As long as noone is injured. I started out having to replace the tank in Cindy's GS as the straps had cut a hole into the tank somewhere along the way during a bounce or two on the highway. Nothing like $5.50 a gallon fuel running out of the back of the trailer onto the ground to start the weekend off. Dick Walker was a life saver!!! Bringing me a tank on sat morning to install. One of the Ford guys ask me "why are you taking out the beutifull tank and putting a POS tank in"? I told the one guy it was my NOS tank (nitros) :)

I wish we had a 3 tenths rule to eliminate all the sandbagging. That was rediculas seeing 13 second cars turn into 11 second cars and so on. I think the score was like 42-43 or something like that Fords won.

My race was totally fair I just couldnt get a hold of the track. I was spinning all the way thru 1st every run. That was a joke but the rest was good. I even made it back to Topeka by 1 am!!
See ya next year.
;)

I had a great time too it was my first year ever going, and I didn't get to race, because my gn broke the night before. I agree with racebuicks about the sandbagging by the fords being rediculously bad my "friend" Chris has a mustang that dialed in at 13.6 then ran an 11.4. There was also a mustang that dialed in at 10.7 and then ran a 9.6. I think they should incorporate a break out rule to make things right. I never knew those huge GS's could be so fast, those gs don't bs lol. The coolest car though was this red lightning that did a sky high wheelie for about 100 ft. It was like heaven seeing all those awesome Trs, and all the Tr guys were awesome even the old man with his cowboy hat in his 17 sec boat lol. Hopefully I will get my car running right, and will help us kill the Fords next year, as long as they don't leave sand all over the track again.

About the sandbagging... The event was pretty big and alot of guys only got one qualifying run... therefore if for some reason you had a problem in that one run well too bad thats your qualifying time. I don't think alot of the major sandbagging was intentional and I think a rule change would not work. Besides if one of their camp wastes a 10 sec car to take out a 13 sec buick it actually works out in our favor in the long run. :D

Yep, that's right, as irritating as it is, the sandbaggers actually help us by wasting their faster cars on our slower ones. I got beat by a car a couple of years ago that was at least a second faster than mine. He went past me like I was standing still then he played it cool and only beat me by enough to make it look good. They can still sandbag and get around the 3 tenths rule if they want.

I looked like a sandbagger myself yesterday. I was busy working the front gate etc. and thought I only needed to make one pass so I waited till about 1:00 to time trial. I couldn't hold any boost on the line and had a bad 60'. By the time I got back to the pits and fixed my problem they had announced the staging lanes were closed. I ran 11.82 on a 12.20 qualifying time in the finals. I was so far ahead I thought about slowing down, but I wanted to see what my car would run because it felt like a good launch. The Ford guys probably thought I was really sandbagging because I beat him by over a second.

We have discussed it many times and always decided that we don't want to disqualify people for running faster. It makes it too much like a bracket race, besides, they are already penalizing their team, by sandbagging. We always remind ourselves that this is a team race, so if they want to do it, lets let them help us.

Yeah I understand how sandbagging hurts a team overall, but it still takes away from the fun of the event. People love to see close races that come down to the wire. It's not very impressive to see a bunch of 13 sec cars run against 11 sec cars IMHO.

Well, I've gotten to analyze the results of the shootout virtually ever year and when you look at them, the sandbagging is not as bad as you think. It's just the thing people seem to focus on. The vast majority of it is great racing, and it's better to think about the 90% positive side of it than to worry about it :)

How about the GN that launched in reverse, slapped it back in drive and still beat the ford!!!!!!!! Later Bob.

I can't believe I forgot about that! That was one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen lol.

Thanks to the Ok.Buick club for putting this on!
The guy I raced he had a red Mustang he qualified with a 12.14 and ran a 11.48.I qualified with a 12.04 and ran a 12.08.He was talking about sandbaggin in the staging lanes when we was lined up with his buddies. So I tried to cut a great light and had it red(-.021)It did not matter if I cut a good light or not because he was going to win!
It is a fun race but I get sick of these guys that do that.
