OK, so I've decided to build my own tranny. Now, I know what the book says, but you can't just run to Lowes or Home Depot and buy these special tools cheap. So my question is, what tools are absolutely necessary, and where can you get them?

Hi Dewey...

I'm doing the same thing. So far I've taken the 200-4r apart and I'm now installing overhaul and shift kits from Chris.

The tools I've needed and had to buy are:
- clutch spring compresser
- Low/Reverse Clutch Installer
- Output Shaft Support tool
- Lip Seal Installer
- Bushing Driver Set

I got these tools from http://www.etoolcart.com although I'm sure there are other sources.

Also get Chris' manual.

You can get some stuff off eBay as well if your not in a hurry. You will need to know the GM "J" part numbers though. They are listed in the ATSG manual. You can also search eBay for "Kent Moore" as they make many of the GM transmission tools and fixtures. There is a KD tool for the Lo/Rev installer that is pretty cheap on eBay as well. I believe I posted the part number for that tool and a source for it in another post a while back. Good Luck and watch out for "snipers". ;)
