Building a rear mount turbo for my 2500hd 8.1 - Turbo suggestions??

Hey guys, im building a rear mount turbo kit for my 02 2500HD with a 8.1 liter, im looking for suggestions on a turbo to use, possibly even some sort of a diesel turbo since I have easy access to them and the prices are great on factory remans...Im using a duramax stock IC, larger injectors and custom tuning. Im not looking for knock your pants off power, the 8.1 is no slouch on its own, just some extra ponies and that great turbo sound!!! TIA for any info! Ryan:biggrin:

I put a sts kit on a customers 8.1 2500hd and i used a 76 gtq on it. It worked really well the truck would break the tires loose at 40 mph on 7psi.

The STS kits are expensive for what you get. On the other hand they've done all the R&D and they work. There's a guy on the ls1gto.com board that built one from scratch and had all kinds of problems. Mainly with the oiling setup. He finally got it all worked out, but by then he had burnt up a few bearings.

Read where a guy put one on an old cavalier and knocked it down from high 15s in the 1/4 to low 14s in the 1/4, and did it all with junk parts. So, it can be done.

Check w/Otto... He had helped someone out with one a couple years back. He wanted me to turbo my Suburban and take it to E-town!
