Check out these pictures. This bullet proof vest is from 1996, keep in mind vests should be replaced every 5 years.

It was shot with a 9mm, 40 cal and 45 cal from point blank range back to about 8'. It stopped all of the rounds from all distances. A 223 round screamed through both sides, but I knew this would happen before the test. Wasn't sure if I should put this in guns and ammo, feel free to move it mods.

Yeah they have a good thing going saying they need to be replaced every 5 years. They say the kevlar fibers will start to break down. I just received my new one. I prob wouldn't wear one from 1970 but wouldn't think twice to keep one for 10 years easily

Harness belts have to be replaces a little too often too...

I took care of a police officer friend in the ER a while back. Took a 9mm to the chest from about 15 feet on a traffic stop. Vest stopped the round, but the impact broke a rib -- and this was in the mid 80's. At that time, ( for reasons I do not know), wearing a vest was friggn' optional in his dept. I was *always* after him to wear one. Quite frequently he didn't. He'd say either "It's too hot", or " too uncomfortable ". Praise God he was wearing one that day. And for all you guys that are cops and current/former servicemen and women, I say "Thank You" -- and I mean it.
As a sidenote, I have gotten to know a few of the cops in my local dept. One day I had noticed three of them closely looking over my parked GN as I was leaving the local chili place. Thinking something was wrong, I got a little anxious. "Is your name John?", one asked. Out of habit I pulled out my license. "very nice car" , he said. I also told them that if they see the car on the road and I'm NOT in it, it's probably just been stolen. Turns out 2 were TB enthusiasts and the third just liked muscle cars.Very nice guys , they are.
