Not trying to be a debbie downer, but if giving up is in his future, now it the time to do it.

Hell, I'm thinking about parting mine out and I know every square inch of it and how it works.

It could be a lot worse.
It could be a non running hot air car. ;)
I just look at those and say - oh hell - just tear it out and replace it with something - else.

If it was a non running hotair, I'd have no problem taking a match to it! :D

I've been driving by this 87 t every morning that's been setting by a barn the way its setting i'd say the motor is removed still had the factory wheels on it.then the other day I drove by looks like they took off the wheels and dropped it in the dirt couldn't believe it. haven't walked up on it but looks like a recent repaint.and it was in the barn (garage) earlier in the year looks like another one someone has gave up on.

I figure this car is like a harley. Spend tons on upgrades n chrome
Then sell it for half price. Im keeping it forever n im gonna drop
crazy $$$to fix it so that i never forget rule #1:
Research the sh!t u r gonna buy.

Not buying shit you don't need is a big piece of the puzzle. There are parts that most cars need that these cars flat out don't respond to.

The trick is to address all the weaknesses. EVERY one of them and get the car running right. In good running 'stock' form your 13sec GN will miraculously mop the floor with every '11sec' street car you come across.

The hard part is convincing people they need "power parts" like fuel filters, stock replacement timing chains, and vacuum hoses.

Do the best you can to find a local person with experience. Pay them if you have to. Don't go to someone that doesn't own a TB. They will not know what to do and just suck up your money. You can do alot yourself for sure. Plenty of info here and on Vortex, etc.

If i ever get this thing running. What r ur top5 unneccessary upgrades
And ur top 5 must have( most bang for$$$)
Thanks for help

It's still faster than the Harley, even if it's broken.........:D

Depending on your goals.
Cam
Front mount intercooler
Rear gears
Are three I can think of.
But if your car is worn out you might need a cam so at that point it becomes a need.

Needs
Traction(sticky tires and posi If yours doesn't have one)
Good gas so you can crank up the boost.
Hot wire, fresh fuel filter, and a good pump(used to be a stock one but these are 25 now and all are suspect)
Chip for your combination
Next thing ya know you are crankin low 12s in good weather

It's on K highway off of 229 north about 1/4 mile west of twin pine veterinarian if your interest I could run up and talk to him see what's up with the car silver metallic I'm not sure on the interior color he had it setting in the garage I could see the front sticking out then one day it was setting outside beside the garage i seen the front end was up so I just thought maybe he was changing engine still had the factory t wheels then last week I saw it setting on the ground with no wheels.not sure whats going on now.I have so many projects going on at the shop now that I wouldn't be able to do anything with it for a year or soBut i'll get his number if you like.

My only interest would be parting it out if its too far gone to restore. I don't wanna part anything that's savable but if its a pile and he's gonna scrap it or sell it to a circle tracker at least i'd make sure the parts went to good homes. If its sitting in the dirt then it doesn't sound like he's very fond of it.

Top unnecessary upgrades: center arm rest with cup holder, Volt Booster, ported throttle body/doghouse, kicking stereo with trunk kit and dual subwoofers
Top necessary upgrades: Silver Star headlights, new vacuum lines, in car fuel pressure gauge, boost gauge, knock gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge.

TOP 5 NECESSARY- Upgraded fuel pump W/ Hotwire
Better injectors than stock with mathching chip of your choice
A GOOD stock MAF or a modern MAF with Translator
All Gauges- including boost, fuel pressure, oil pressure, coolant temperature, scanmaster (Wideband is a plus)
This is no bolton, but make sure there is NO pre-turbo exhaust leaks (I have been cursed forever with these), make sure the transmission is in good shape (trans cooler is a great addition), and good tires. On a stock to even moderately modified vehicle, the stock gears have been sufficient for many people I have seen post here on the board.

Unnecessary upgrades- Depends on how fast you want to go.

Top 5 must have's: (the basics) -- This presupposes that you've done the spring cleaning- plugs, filters, fluids, vacuum lines etc...

1. good injectors and matching chip
2. good maf
3. good valve springs
4. good fuel pump with hotwire
5. scanmaster

The goal is to get the car running first and foremost. Then, running properly. THEN, and only then do you worry about the other stuff.
Once it's running right, you'll want to make sure it's stopping right as well.... (That means you NEED to address the braking system)

A lot of guys just wanna go fast and that's fine and good but all the "fun stuff" (eg: big turbo, wheels and tires, stereo, FMIC, downpipes, headers, etc...) should be off the table until all the basics have been handled.

Having a few grand on hand is a good start. Be prepared to spend more........................................much more.

IMHO, the ONLY people that should be buying a non running turbo regal is someone VERY familiar with their workings, and has worked on them enough to be familiar with what they see and hear.
Novices have no business buying a non running car of this complexity."

-or-

People with a lot of money.....
