hi, i'm dennis, and i'm a moron.

i accidently filled the tranny too far after adding a cooler, i thought it was right at the top of the x's where the dip stick bends, turns out that was just an illusion and it was filled 1/4 inch past that. oops.

my car is my daily driver, so time of of the essence. am i better off rebuilding my tranny myself/having a tranny shop do it. or spending the $1000 for a new tranny that i can just swap in, and later build the other one.

whats the best way to go about this? i'm eventually wanting low 11's out of the car, and its cheaper to just do it once, then to redo it later on. so i need to concider that too.

also it just started slipping today, only 1st gear that i know of, how much longer can i expect to be able to drive the car?

ok, well i looked at prices of different things and a full rebuild is definatly the way to go for me. but now i have no idea what i'm wanting. eventually i'd like to go low 11's that is down the road a little, but its probably cheaper to just do this right the first time.

i was looking at the pstxtreme kit, doesnt' say much about what it is on their website.

the ck perf. looks pretty pricey, but then again i don't have much to make a comparison against.

what else would i need that wouldnt' be included in the kits to handle what i'm wanting to do? i'd like it to shift harder too, but a valve body is not really what i want to spend my money on yet, and its easy enough to replace later on anways.

any sugestions?

ok, i got it working again with some lucas tranny fix stuff, that worked great for about 1,000 miles, but its doing it again now so i pulled the pan to change the oil and filter and found a TON of shavings in the bottom of the pan, a lot of its caked on so i'm thinking its pretty old, and maybe it pluged up the filter and thats the problem. i know my tranny cooler never really got hot so that makes sence.

my question is am i playing russian roulette if i put the new filter and oil in, or will it be reliable untill winter. the clutches i can see with the pan off look ok, theres probably 1/16 of an inch worth of material left on all but 2 of the clutches, i know its not good but i'm asking will it work? i really need the car for at least another week or two. but i don't need to be left out on the side of the road either.

I dont think anyone could make a good guess about how long it will last unfortunately. Best bet would be to have it looked at before it trashes too many hard parts inside if theres alot of metal going around.

Or I guess you could get a AAA membership and a cell phone with good coverage :)

I have recently purchased parts off CK and found them to be very nice and helpful.

:(
I feel your pain. Since the pan is off, I would clean it, relace the filter and fluid and see how it feels. I raced 1/2 a season on a trans that had a bad 1 - 2 flare. When I had the trans rebuilt though, it cost more since I had some hard parts that were damaged.
Locally you can call Detriot Transmissions and talk to Tim - he is the only trans builder in the area that I know of that understands our transmissions. He built mine and gave me a 2 warranty, in writing, including racing.

really. i'll give him a buzz today then.

how much did it end up costing you?

$1700 for R&R of the tranny, the parts, labor and a new large tranny cooler. I drove it in on a Monday and picked it up 3 days later.
