Anyone ever done it? We're looking for a 50" - 55" rear projection LCD television and see internet prices low enough to offset shipping fees. I'm mainly worried about transit damage and/or warranty work. We just ordered new furniture to house the beast and will wait on that to make it here and be set up.

OTOH, what's the "best" one out there?

Thanks!

i often have dreams watching TV at Woodys house......... even golf is fun to watch on that thing!!

Something as big and expensive as that, I would much rather (and did) buy it locally. Surely the internet price can't be that much lower than what you could find if you shopped around a little
To risky for my blood. If it is damaged in shipping, then you have a huge hassle to deal with, compared to if something happened if bought from a local store, IMO

Woody, how well are these things packed? I'm having the same thoughts as Welby. Transit damage would be a nightmare, but looking at a $500 -$700 markup (plus 8.25% tax) to buy locally is really Scotching me out!

I'm checking out crownvic's site right now, the free shipping is looking good!

I bought my Mitsubishi 55" Diamond rear projection from Tweeter Electronics here in Dallas in Jan. I could not find any internet price to beat the deal they made me. :D

I love my new tv!!!

you can get some darn good deals on open box units too. either online or at circuit city, best buy or any other local tv reseller you have. they usually carry the same factory warranty and they can be 15-25% cheaper. :)

Well, tvauthority.com it is! We bought a 56" Samsung HLP5663W with a 4 year extended warranty, delivered to the door for $2848. Our local dealers could not even come close to that on a 50" with no warranty. The salesman said they show less than 1% of delivered units are damaged in transit and if by chance it is damaged, they immediately send out another set and arrange for the damaged one to be picked up. SOLD ME!

I bought my 55" at sears a few years ago, works great and had no problems yet-
the last sony we had was purchased at sams club, it lasted 9 years till the pic got a lil tweaked on the bottom left corner, caused by the refridgerator on the opposite wall:rolleyes:
