C5 Owners?

I know there are more than a few C5 vette owners on the board.

Pretty sure I want to get into a c5 as a daily, really wanna get another TR to daily, but i have a newer car i need to unload and having problems selling it,
so looking for minimal hassle tradein
~~~~ANYWAY
To get an even trade, or least amount of $$ out of pocket, i'll be looking at a few cars with between 30 and 40k miles on them.
How do they hold up at this mileage?
I really don't drive alot so i wont be putting a ton of miles on it, just want something reliable.
Or would it be better to add some cash and get something with lower miles?

Anything to look out for when looking at them?

Any advice would be appreciated.

the wife drives a 99. we have had it for 2.5 years, it had 46k on it & it now has about 75k on it. to date I have changed the shocks (C6 Z 06), all brakes, hoses & rotors (not that it needed it but wow what a difference), clutch (slave cyl took a crap so changed everything , also C6 Z 06). before our purchase I did a good bit of research & found several owners with 150k+ with nothing but regular maintenance.

Different problems for different years, if you get a 6sp, get a column lock bypass as the worm lock in the steering column jambs up and gives you the "pull key wait 10 seconds" screen, then car won't start leaving you stranded. The display on the digital HVAC controls usually go dim and have to be resoldered. I had to pull both mirrors off my Dads '98 to have them repaired, they got real "floppy" where they pivot and eventually just broke and just hung there by the wires. The power seats get a "rocking" action to them, and some of the oil pressure sending units go bad which is a real PITA to get to. Only issues with mine I have had is the HVAC controls going dim, found a guy on ebay that fixes them for around $100. There's a couple guys on corvetteforum with over 200k on theirs, and at least one I know of with over 300k. I would think that you could find a very nice one with lower mileage for less than 20k. With the mods listed in sig, I averaged 30mpg back from Torrance CA back in February, one leg of the trip it almost got 32mpg doing 80

I'm very happy with it, just not looking forward to having to do a clutch or having to pay to do the clutch! Oh yeah, sorry, mine rolled to 50k back in Feb on the way back from CA.

Eric has hit the nail on the head with some of the issues. I will say just after we bought ours the column lock came up on the dash, after buying the bypass, I read the directions & said what a PITA. it has been sitting on the work bench for over 2 years & the dash has never said "column lock" since I bought it. other issues are seat switch wires need re-soldering on some, CHANGE THE PCV VALVE or add a vent canister to stop oil going back into the throttlebody. none of these are big deals, I just consider it regular maintenance.

nice, sounds good, thanks, can deal with little **** like that.

20k (+/- a few g's) is my price range, unfortunatly it has to be a dealer as i need to do a tradein, but there are still a few in the lower (30-40k) mile cars in that range.

finding a black/black leather one closeby and high teens/low 20s is the hard part, might have to get silver one or wait/travel.

Just bought a 04' torch 6spd coupe 4 months ago for a daily driver.

Daily commute is 120mi highway with a good amount of congestion, I've averaged 26mpg combined city\hwy in the last 3 mo. of driving it.
Bought it with 6,500 mi, now has 12k:tongue: Paid $24k

I also have the bypass but haven't installed it yet.

So far so good, just re-upped the GMPP warranty for another 3yr-55k mi

Fun car to drive, very comfortable just hard to get in-out of.

Good luck, you shouldn't have a problem buying one for $20k
