i took my 86 GN to get smogged the other day. In the past i have taken off the K&N filter and put on the stock set up, but i am tired of doing that. so I just took it in like it is. Is it smog legal with the K&N? isnt it better for the car? anyway, I told the guy at the smog place that the original set up is old and broken and he said that it was ok.. but he said it is an automatic fail for having the K&N style breathers on the valve covers. I have one on the oil cap and the pass. side in the front. I can put the oil cap from my ttype on it for the time being, but what do i do about the passenger side breather. All the nationals i have had in the past had the same thing... what is supposed to go there? I hate dealing with smog.. most people think it isnt smog legal cuz its a GM with a turbo...haha.. also... i need to get a correct oil cap.. where can i get one? is there a special part number? it seems every time i get one it never fits... I need to get this car smogged soon so im hoping you guys can help me answer some of these questions. aside from visual it will pass no problem i believe. thanks!

The original PVC system uses a closed KV filter (attaches to the passenger side valve cover) with an rubber elbow that attaches to the hole on the closed filter followed by a tube that attaches to the inlet bell of the turbo. The suction side of the PVC system includes a PCV valve (intake floor) that attaches to manifold vacuum. The rest of the system includes a closed oil filler cap and the dip stick and tube. You can call Brian Weaver (BWeavy) for the PCV system parts you need.

Oaktown,

The filter on the passenger side can be replaced using a Fram breather filter which costs $2.99. I can't think of the part number, but you will find it in the breather/fuel filter section of your local Autozone or Pep Boys. It is dome-shaped, with an opening for a hose on a flat side of the "top". You then need the "S" hose which runs from the breather to the inlet bell or you can fabricate your own. Is your turbo stock, with the OEM inlet, and what kind of MAF inlet pipe do you have?

thanks for the replys. I have had a few ttypes and gns in the past so i went searching through old boxes of parts and actually found everything accept the oil cap.
