So my transmission was rebuilt and beefed up (supposedly) before I purchased it, but it has the stock converter. As far as I know, it was NOT rebuilt by one of the big name builders, so that could factor in here. It has been fine up until this week. I noticed when driving it up to Norwalk, that it slips from the 1-2 upshift. Around a certain rpm range, it just freely revs up, like it's in neutral, and eventually shifts into 2nd, and shifts pretty hard. It will shift easier if I get into the throttle a bit, or if I let up off of it. My first thought was maybe a cable needs adjusted, but I figured I'd do some research and get some opinions before I go messing anything up. Maybe it's a build error, or maybe the converter is smoked? I've made about 8-10 passes on the car, and noticed the 2-3 upshift is pretty lazy, not sure if that factors in here or not. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

Kelly

I call BS on the "rebuilt & beefed up"

I had the exact same issues/symptoms last year.... your trans is junk, with a capital J.

2nd band/drum is burnt & 3rd clutch (es) are toast.

Time to open your wallet for a good trans build by Lonnie Diers, Dave Husek, or Vince Janis. And you'll need a new converter too, as alot of debris has now gone thru it, as well as a good trans cooler flush.

When I got it, I was calling BS on rebuild, too...No sweat there, got a new Precision converter lined up! :D Good thing I didn't install it right before it bit the dust....Can I get a core charge on the old trans?

Looks like we have a similar build-I'd love to start laying down times like yours!

Lonnie gives $400 for a BRF core. The other two will want you to ship your trans to them & they will rebuild it.

I personally kept my BRF because it's original to the car & had Lonnie build me one from one of his cores.

Not a bad idea. My engine and trans aren't original to the car, so probably no point in me keeping it.

Here's another hint at my transmission problem...about the same time it started slipping, the key became more difficult to remove from the ignition....related?

That sounds like a keyswitch issue. I had a Monte that I could take the key out as engine was running.

hahaha, good God. So it's just a coincidence they started acting up at the same time, it sounds like...dang...I was hoping it was an easier fix

Or.... your ignition key might be getting worn? Got a spare to try?

Yeah, I've got one in the house somewhere, I'll try that. I assume your Grand National didn't have the same ignition issue when your trans blew?
